National Symbol Of Thailand

Featured Replies

Well Well would you imagine this could happen.

I have been making European standard tuk-tuks for the last 6 years but i cant register one in little old Hua Hin.

As some will know (type mmw imports on search) i was involved in a big problem with the Thai goverment, they accused me of stealing the National Symbol of Thailand.

It is now the case that the very vehicle they wanted to protect they now dont want on the streets, I went to register a low emission EU approved type tuk-tuk with seat belts, dual circuit brakes, power assisted and all the rest.

I was refused and told that they would not allow tuk-tuks to be registered.

So much for the National Symbol now.

Mike.

Slip them a few or the grey or purple notes and I think their reverence for such things will quickly decline.

Mike, why is it that most of the tuk-tuks in Hua Hin have two benches (facing one another) and four wheels, while the ones in Chiang Mai have one bench and three wheels?

Hi Peaceblondie,

We have both down here,

But it is much cheaper to convert a small van than to make a tuk-tuk from scratch.

I have seen the fourwheeler converted vans in Bangkok as well.

Most of the tuk-tuks here have got two benches but there are some 2 seaters.

Mike.
