I've never seen the location of this place, but I'll take your word that it is bad. However, diners in the USA - their birthplace - are mostly on main highways. Usually set back a bit with plenty of parking. They began in the very early 20th century as railway dining cars converted to eateries and taken off the tracks, but in or near big railway yards catering to the many workers who wanted a good breakfast or lunch at affordable prices. They became so popular, especially during the Depression, that their locations became more widespread. During the 1950s big purpose-built glitzy chrome plated diners started to appear and soon replaced the old converted dining cars. The food was still good even though more was offered on the menus. Most of them were, and are, a good value for the money.
