Hello all,

I have recently re-located back in the Uk and have brought with me all my belongings. But I am having problems with the Samsung TV I brought back. Its a 43ins rear projection, that unfortunatly has no scart sockets. Which means I have my Sky satalite reciever running through a coaxal cable. This is causing me to have picture problems, faint black lines going up and down the screen. I also cannot get a picture through any of the Av channels therefore having to tune it in on channel8. If I watch the terrestrial television the the picture is perfect and have tried a decent lead that acts with a scart going to 3 RCA leads. All these have not solved the problem so I plugged a english tv in and it was fine. Anybody have any ideas what I am doing wrong??

Bang...........

When you tried with the Scart to 3 RCA leads did you change the input to RGB or YUV?

Could you tell what model the Samsung is

Go and get either:-

A SCART to 3 RCA with a switch to change input/output, you can bet it didn't work because the lead you have is wired the wrong way.

OR

A SCART to 6 RCA then you can select the right lead combination.

Firstly make sure that you have the TV set to PAL etc..

Run the Satellite from either an S-Video (Din) or Video (single yellow RCA) lead first to make sure that these work. All satellite boxes will have at a minimum the yellow 'composite' connection.

SCART doesnt work the same as RGB, or Component so you are not going to have much luck plugging it into the TV.

Component output, which is the three RCA lead connection (+2 for stereo sound) has Red Green and blue cables/sockets, However it is NOT an RGB connection. If the lead you have has a scart socket one side and a yellow, red and white lead the other then that is a composite lead, which is the lowest quality.

Has the cable box got a S-Video port, if so I would just use that. With most DVD players they have the Component cables whcih should give the best picture fro your telly.

My Samsung is model SP43T8

I have made sure the TV is set in PAL mode,

And changed the setting to RGB, and it says on the box the lead is Scart to RCA???

I am getting a little confused, but dont want to settle for a crap picture :o:D

According to the manual it should have a scart connector, but that doesn’t help us in this case. Unless they have pulled a Sony stunt and simply put a plastic cover over the scart connector. You might want to check that. No need to open just look at the read connection panel where the scart should have been. Between the two RCAs for audio output and the S-Video1 connector.

While bangbuathongben is crawling looking for the “might be hidden scart connector” I will use the time to tell what I mean by “Sony stunt”. A lot of features on several electronic components are either not available or common in Asia or Europe so instead of redesigning to much you will make all the TV sets or DV cameras exactly the same, but put a cover over some of the features you might not use in ex Thailand.

They did exactly the same with DV cameras in Thailand it would be called PC2 and in Europe PC2e the E version didn’t have firewire and a record button on the remote. Or so it seemed, until you pulled the cover of the remote and saw this big red record button.

Ah…bangbuathongben is back so did it have it?

If yes you might want to consider to cut the cover off and use the scart connector.

If no…###### it! Then it looks like the only option for the Sky sat is s-video well at least you have 3 of those.

If the Sky box doesn’t have s-video out you can buy a scart to s-video.

You do say you have a scart to 3 RCAs my guess is that it isent wired correctly if it looks crappy. Also do remember scart connectors are very sensitive to friction...might be one of the reasons Asia and US dont use them to much...hence the name Euro Scart.

So forget the 3 RCAs the picture isent the best anyway since all signals are sent in one cable except the sound.

With S-video the signals are transported each on their own, all the way to the decoder inside the TV.

So if you dont want "a crappy picture" go for scart from your Sky box to a S-video cable and sound.

If you have a DVD you should go for the Y Pb Pr connector since it will give you a better picture than s-video connection.

And remember since there are so many connections you should toggle your VIDEO button on the remote to choose between TV - AV1 - AV2 - AV3 - AV4 - S-VHS1 - S-VHS2 - DVD.
