I Just Wonder ....

If I go on a motorbike trip to Nan and I want to tell my friends in Chiang Rai about the trip can I post photos in that thread or

shall all photos be in the pinned Photo thread?

We have never had so many photos posted in such a short time!

I really don't understand the problem that you see here that have caused you to close all threads with photos.

Another nail in the coffin I would say.

Of course you can post photos of a hypothetical trip to Nan on your motorbike.

But probably it would be more appropriate to post it on the Bikes In Thailand forum, and send the link of your post to your friends.

A moto trip to Nan is not really CR related, is it?

Look, I know closing these threads will rub some the wrong way.

I didn't do it to bother anyone, but rather just to try to calm things down.

The posting of many many dozens of pictures daily, and the comments made in criticism favoring one faction or another, was starting to get out of hand.

Another issue behind the closings that I didn't mention was bandwidth considerations.

I have hi-speed internet, and sometimes trying to view a new post on a thread took quite a while for the page to load.

I hope I've answered your questions, Sven.

I value your many contributions to this forum over the years, and I hope to see more of your excellent photos, on the "Images of Chiang Rai" pinned topic.

I reckon you should consider pinning the Chiang Rai Sky thread, even if you choose to lock it. There has been far too much effort and work put into that thread over the years to allow it to disappear into the ether.

In my opinion it's one of the greatest threads ever seen on Thaivisa and it would be tragic to lose those images, not only for current members, but for members yet to join.

theblether,

It is locked, not deleted.

If you go to the pinned topic, you will see my post where I provided links to all the locked threads.

If you want to view at any time, just bookmark the particular thread just like any other webpage, newspaper article, etc.

The threads will be on our servers forever, barring Armageddon.

Again, here are the links to those threads:

I tend to agree with this. Not a poster here on the CR forum much but I drop by from time to time to look at the pics. Some brilliant photography on this forum particularly!

@mcgriffith

What theblether is saying is that while he knows the thread exists, for future members when it drops down to page ten or whatever it will be lost to them, and most existing members to be honest.

I see the point you are making about new, and existing members who might want to view one or another particular archive of photos.

I think they can find them quite readily on the Images of CR topic.

The previous images are available forever.

New images can be posted there anytime.

Photographs (one or 2) can always be attached to any post.

But a large series of photos really should appear on a dedicated topic devoted to photography, not in the main body of a community forum.

That was the consensus of the moderators and administrators.

Perhaps the easiest solution is for members to occasionally post links to the locked threads, in order that interested folks can have a look. They really are worth it!

It's a pity that it has came to this and I am sorry that future members will find it more difficult to find the CR Sky thread however I understand there has been tension on this forum.

Accepting in full what you have said mcgriffith I would like to pass on my thanks to villagefarang for his outstanding contribution and I look forward to seeing many more photos from him and others.

To the OP, I thoroughly enjoyed your thread too and again I look forward to seeing more images from you too.

Some ( many ) of the photos we see on the CR forum are world class. wai.gif

Although this is a topic about moderation I hope you will accept this post. You suggest that photos regarding Chiangrai should be posted in a photograpy section. I disagree. I for one will never post there. My photos are my view of what I see. They are not (except for a special few) ones that have had the artistic arts of phtography or the creative arts of photoshop applied to set them as a subject for being reprocessed to show they could be better (In someone else's opinion) or being criticized that the wrong F stop was used. In the Chiangrai forum they do show our own views of Chiangrai. If there is a problem it seems to have been sorted by people posting in their own threads with different viewpoints. Cross posting photos in other threads may be criticized if desired but as long as each sticks to his thread mainly for their photos it makes Chiangrai seem a better place as it gives views of this beautiful province. The fact that we have several highly capable members each wanting to be at the top of the tree should not matter. We are fortunate to have them and Chiangrai and the forum would be less without them.

I hear you, harrry, and I welcome your comments.

Perhaps I was imprecise in my choice of words when I termed "Images of Chiang Rai" as the place to post CR photos, and in another statement mentioned that large series of photos, and large format photos should properly belong in a photography thread.

You or any other member are more than welcome to post your shots of CR on the Images thread. It is not a "photography thread" in the strict sense of the word, as in a professional photographer's place.

There is no special criterion- any and all shots, pro or amateur, landscape or portrait, whimsical/funny or serious....whatever, is welcome there.

It's just a community place, where any member of the CR community can post any photo related to life in Chiang Rai. The thread has existed since 2005!

You shouldn't feel intimidated by the very high quality of some of the member's contributions.

As I mentioned in post #7, if you just want to attach 1 or 2 photos to a post on the main forum (picture of your dog, photo of a new restaurant you just discovered, etc.) that is completely OK..

......and yet the pickiness and pettiness continues........there have been photographic contributions onto the CR forum for years, and now a policy has been put in place due to squabbling.

Give it a rest, it's the entire membership that's paying the price for these petty vendettas.

Let's face it Chiangrai is not that big a place but it has a strong and vibrant forum. It is a town with people who are pretty strong. Probably have to be to come to a fairly small place and set up their live. Not many in Chiangrai are the kind that have floated to the bottom of the barrel. We have some pretty high achievers some who of whom think they are still at the top of the tree and will not stop climbing until the tree finally overbalences. Some of us have stopped pushing so much. All in all Chiangrai people are a diverse bunch of individuals but we are all members of the Chiangrai community and can handle a lot of what may be seen as criticism or bickering. Just like most families there are some who are best seen only at weddings and funerals and others who accept each other's differences more easilly.

I just hope that trying to make the forum too correct is not going to lose members as the forum loses interest and involvement.Even packs of soi dogs need their squabbles to help define the relationships in the group. Our squabbles are same same but different.

'pickiness and pettiness' you are misrepresenting the issue here - stating years when it has bee months is an exaggeration to try to achieve your goal. I have been a member here for 9 years, a great site. The CR forum has unfortunately fallen to a choice 3-4 members who try to manipulate and harass members who they do not agree with or like. I have no allegiances with any other party and do not know any members personally, what I do see is snide remarks from a few that have driven other members to create another site to avoid this. I may just go there myself soon if the rubbish (seen when I posted a simple question thread earlier ) continues. You should consider growing up, or leaving.

Let's not be so harsh here.

This is a trying time, and I am attempting to try to get things back on an even keel.

I agree with harrry's post 100%.

CR has a lot of strong individuals, with opinions to match, and many creative and other talents.

It's worth trying to maintain a place where all can be a community.

No one wants to have constant negativity and fighting, but likewise no one wants a bland and politically correct state of "niceness".

Surely there is somewhere in the middle, where we can all meet?
