sub101uk Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I have just changed over my True vision box to a new Samsung HD-S200S when checking Signal and Quality levels I find Signel is over 90 but Signel Quality only 15-20 . Now This is a standard UBC dish , Cable run length 30 feet and a clear day ! Should the Quality Level be this low ? Many thanks for reading ! Cheers Sub101uk
monty Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Not sure what regular readings should be, but certainly not as low as 20%. You will not have much left over for rainfade, i.e. relatively light rain will see your images start stuttering, while this should only happen when really heavy downpours are present. I do recall having seen a screenshot from the new Samsung box showing 100% signal quality!
sub101uk Posted November 22, 2012 Author Posted November 22, 2012 Thanks Monty Signal level is 85 - 90 but it was the Signal Quality level I was worried about being only 20 I thought it should be a bit more than this. Thanks for taking the time to reply Sub101uk
ThaidDown Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I posted a screen shot in this thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/571492-upgrading-ubc-to-bigger-dish-to-help-avoid-rain-fade/ post#36. Yes managed to get 100/100 level/quality. Agree signal quality level of 20 does not give much leeway in case of heavy cloud or rain. My cable run is approx 15 metres. Could try tweaking the dish, but suggest marking initial position first.
sub101uk Posted November 22, 2012 Author Posted November 22, 2012 Hi ThaidDown thanks for the feed back , Well the guys did come over the other day and checked the dish and the best they could get was Signel 85 but the Q is way down only 20 . I think all I can do is go on a walk about local and check out all the other systems out in the area and see what Q level there all getting because it would seem every body is not getting the same . I fully understand if its a over case day signal + Q will be lower but this is on a clear day with no much of a cable run .The system is about 3 years old so maybe the LNB is on its way out . Thanks for the screen shot , its just truevision is not cheap and the last thing I want to happen is be in the middle of the movie and you lose signal . Cheers sub101uk
ThaidDown Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Possibly LNB, I had posted previously in another thread that I was only getting 60 as quality max (signal 100 though). The LNB I had at the time went intermittent so replaced with a spare (recovered from an abandoned True installation) rather than wait few days for True techs. That was when I readjusted the dish and got the 100/100. 85/20 max ,to me seems too low as it does not give any leeway for heavy clouds or rain. Sorry but do not know what to suggest unless you try to tweak it yourself, but that needs good access to dish and, for best results, being able to view a screen while you are adjusting.
astral Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 I have just checked my system and it shows 100% for signal and 50% for quality and it is a pretty cloudy day here. Alignment or LNB are my guess as the problems. I doubt the cable matters, unless it is damaged and water has got in?
Questador Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Check your LNB skew angle, if you have not already done so. For Thaicom 5 in Bangkok its 56.8 degrees rotated clockwise from the vertical as you look from behind the dish, for example. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Thaivisa Connect App
sub101uk Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 Hi Guys sorry for the late reply but I did not get any thing in the mail telling me there had been a reply to my problem . Yes its abit strange first of all the guy did come and re check the did and the best he could get was 85 signal with a 20 Q level .The cable run is very short so maybe the LNB needs changing out its about 3 years old. Back in the UK I have all the gear but nothing over in Thailand but you have confirmed that Q level is down and should be above 20 Should I get any drop out I think best just to change the LNB .Let face its a very basic system its not like being on a polar mount so it must be the LNB just getting a bit tried . Thanks again for the feed back . sub101uk
