Marriage Visa

Featured Replies

Hi

I am currently applying for a marriage visa for Thailand.

I work overseas and live with my wife and daughter in Thailand i am returning to work in Australia in Febuary but will be flying back to Thailand every week or two to spend time with the family.

Question:1

Is it possible to still get a Marriage visa for Thailand and work in Australia or is this not excepted?

I will be looking at getting my wife and daughter back to Australia in about 12 months.

Question:2

I still have a residental address in Australia as well does this effect the Marriage visa?

Your working in OZ will not affect your ability to get a visa. Since you are going to be in and out of Thailand frequently, you should apply for a 1 year multiple entry Non-O visa because you want to visit your Thai Wife. You can apply for the visa either in OZ or in a neighboring country, Savannakhet, Laos is best at the moment as they don't require any money in the bank. I don't know how much they require in OZ. You will need a copy of the bio page of your passport, your last visa, you last permission to stay stamp, your departure card, your wife's ID, her Tambien Ban book(blue book)and your marriage certificate. If your wife is not going with you she should write a short note to immigration asking that they issue the visa.

With that visa you can leave and enter Thailand as many times that you want, and will be stamped 90 days permission to stay on entry. You will hvae to do a border run if you intend to stay longer than 90 days.

You can not apply while in Bangkok! Only extensions of stay are available or single entry visa in that process (which your schedule does not allow and you do not need).

A simple application to Brisbane or other Thai Consulate for a multi entry non immigrant O visa is all that is required. You can do by mail. Cost will be normal visa fee. It really can not be simpler - involving a third party is not only not needed it can lead to serious issues if they make any errors.

As said a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa is what you want.

Easy to get and will cost you the equivalent of 5,000 baht.

I think a proposed sum from lawyers will ensure a visa without the need to visit a Thai consulate abroad

You do not need to visit a Consulate to obtain a visa by yourself with direct contact with the Consulate. But you can not legally obtain a valid visa for Thailand while inside Thailand other than in the extension of stay conversion process which the poster has no need for.

And probably would not be in the country long enough to apply for it.

And to add, there is no such thing as a Marriage Visa.

You are currently in Thailand. Do you have a visa or are you on a 30 day visa exempt entry? What date does your permission to stay expire? When do you plan to leave Thailand next? When you you plan to re-enter?

whistling.gif It may be possible to get a marriage "visa" without visiting a Thai consulate abroad but by doing that you are doing it the most difficult and uncertain way.

If you are in Australia the easiest and most direct way is to apply for a non immigrant O multi entry visa from a Thai consulate. Let's just say the Thai consulate in Brisbane as an example.

The first step is you contact the consulate and get a clear list of the documents and other requirements they want to issue you that multi-entry visa. Your justification on getting that visa is marriage to a Thai living in Thailand and intending to move their and be with your Thai wife.

The next step is to get together all those documents the consulate wants....including English translations if required.

Then you present all these documents with your application for that visa to the consulate.

With all the required documents in hand the Thai consulate will issue that non immigrant O multi-entry visa good for a period of one year of unlimited exit/entry trips in and out of Thailand.

Now pay the fee for your new visa.

If you are smart and make your last exit/re-entry just before that one year visa expires you can stretch your legal stay to15 months on that one year visa,

There is really no need to involve a 3rd party in the process.... that will just add extra costs and more chances for misunderstanding and errors in the process.

As they say, if you want something done right, then do it yourself.

Seriously, I was a 64 year old American with a bum leg living in Greece in 2010... but I limped my way through the process of getting a non immigrant O multi entry visa in the U.K. from a Thai consulate there.

Mine was based on retirement not marriage.... but if I could master the visa process.... so can you.

You really don't need a third party....but that's your choice if you want one.

Your justification on getting that visa is marriage to a Thai living in Thailand and intending to move their and be with your Thai wife.

Your intention should be to visit your wife for a multi entry visa application. He is not planning to live in Thailand in any case.

I was scrolling down this interesting post wondering when I would stumble across this unhelpful but ever present screed. "Marriage Visa" is simply a slang short cut for "Non-O extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai person," and everybody knows it. Words are intended to convey a concepts and "marriage visa" conveys the concept just fine. This constant attempt at "correction" is neither a correction nor is it a help to anybody. Pomposity is suggested, but this does not even rise to pompous as pomposity normally has something behind it, while this attempted correction is completely empty. It is pedantic at best, and only that. Please, give it a rest.

I agree with Beano and disagree with you, terminology is important.

Actually from ten years here I can say that not everybody understands this and have frequently had to tell even those with non immigrant O visa entry that it is actually what marriage allows and there is not something else they should be getting short of extension of stay. Just as not everybody speaks in slang not everybody understands that marriage does not provide a special class of visa. Using the correct terms is vitally important for others to provide correct answers to questions on this forum and to prevent misunderstandings. We are a multi national forum and slang just does not cut it.

Marriage visa could also be construed to meaning a visa or dependent extension for a wife of a person on an extension of stay not only one based upon marriage to a Thai.

Correct wording is an extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai (not a visa) or a non immigrant O visa based upon marriage to a Thai.
