Time For The Usa To Tighten Gun Laws

Featured Replies

While weapons can be kept wrapped and greased indefinitely, I doubt that the same is true of ammunition. In a house fire, an unloaded gun is unlikely to be a significant hazard.

heat or fire will not fire a bullet in the way a gun will.

The cases will just come apart in a fire but not fire a bullet.

Think of how a gun fires. The cartridge is locked in a small space.

The primer is ignited when struck by the firing pin,

Which then ignites/burns the powder. The gases it develops in this tight chamber expands

the gas has only one place to go. But the bullet is blocking it so it propels the bullet out of the barrel.

They actually fire the other way in a fire.

Meaning the brass pops off or splits. Because it is not locked down in a chamber

The brass does not have the ballistics to penetrate the storage cases in most instances.

Of course folks including the military use different types of cases to store.

Meaning wood or metal.

If I recall correctly the metal ammo cans pop their tops partially to let gases escape.

Which is why they have that two stage hinge system to close them.

( I could be wrong on this last part about the cans but that is how the cans were explained to me many years ago)

Firefighters shot dead at house fire in Webster, upstate New York

Two firefighters have been shot dead after they responded to an early morning house fire in America.

Look on the bright side, HB. The gunman (as also at Newtown) killed himself afterwards.

we could also add this one to the list:

two female police officers killed with handguns and grenades in England. And guns are supposed to be illegal in England. Make ownership of the guns criminal, and only criminals will have guns.

You can find instances everywhere, e.g. another incident in China where a man used a car to ram into a crowd of schoolkids. Luckily none were killed. If guns are not easily available, the nuts use something else.

But there are three main points why the US is always the main target of critics.

1. The number of gun murders in the US is far above anything experienced by any other civilised country.

2. In countries where guns are not readily available, the nuts use knives, cars, whatever..... but the death toll tends to be lower.

3. Of course people can get guns even when there are stricter gun laws, but the overall carnage seems to be less.

I ran across this great article on gun laws around the world and how people in every country flout those laws. While it clearly shows people don't comply with the laws (even in the UK) it doesn't address why the gun homicide rates are still much lower in these countries. So article really isn't a pro-gun/anti-gun article, and if you take the time to read all 7-pages go into it with an open mind.

I'm sure whichever side you fall on in the gun ownership issue you will find ammunition for your point of view. Pun intended.

Gun Restrictions Have Always Bred Defiance, Black Markets

For reasons of their own, most people, in many countries, defy anti-gun laws

A very interesting article, Koheesti. That it's human nature to break laws you don't approve of is a commonplace.... and it seems that there are so many guns floating around the place that there will always be millions of people all round the world who want to own them illegally.

Perhaps the truth is that American people are so inherently nasty that there are far more homicides with firearms there than in most civilised countries.... while Western Europeans, who seem to have almost as many guns, are inherently nicer. No? That doesn't ring true?

Maybe the US is not really a democracy but a state of anarchy with a veneer of civilised institutions on top? Oh, I give up!

any attempts concerning "tightening gun laws in the U.S. of A." are futile attempts lacking basical logical thinking without taking prevailing facts into consideration.

And all you US gun nuts want to deport Piers Morgan?

You've got him, you keep him!!

Thousands of US gun rights advocates have signed a White House petition calling for CNN host Piers Morgan to be deported to Britain for allegedly attacking the Second Amendment rights of ordinary Americans.

He is a bit of an effete, pompous dandy, but I don't see that as a reason to deport him.

In Thailand perhaps, but I welcome that sort of thing in the US. On this particular issue I agree with him, Although I would limit only automatic and semi automatic weapons, I have the impression his opinion would be to take more drastic measures. My opinion is not likely to win the day, and his surely won't. Still, he's got people talking and that can't be bad.

Sadly talking about something is easy, thinking about it is a little harder, and actually doing something about it is in a whole different league!

England should take back Piers Morgan. Thank you for ridding us of Madonna. Perhaps you guys would also like to have Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Seacrest, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton? We can work something out.

Here's what the English have to say about that:

"Americans. It took us 40 years to get rid of Piers Morgan. Please don't send him back."

Would you like Clarkson too? biggrin.png

USA will take Clarkson...he's actually amusing at times. But UK has to take back Simon Cowell.

OK, we'll have Simon Cowell, but we will also have Virginia and the Carolinas back at the same time.

You can have both but you gotta take the politicians and pay off their debts.

Men armed with assault rifles walk through Portland to 'educate' public on gun rights

Two men seen walking down a Portland street armed with assault rifles told police they were exercising their Second Amendment rights and hoping to educate the public on gun rights.

Several calls were made to 911 on Wednesday afternoon, with alarmed residents reporting two men with guns strapped to their backs walking through the area of Southeast Seventh Avenue and Spokane Street in Portland's Sellwood neighborhood.

When police arrived on the scene, they found two 22-year-old men carrying rifles openly on their backs. The two were also holding valid concealed handgun licenses in Oregon, according to Fox affiliate KPTV.

The men reportedly told officers that they were seeking to educate onlookers about their Second Amendment rights.

One person's rights not being more valid than another's, it would have been ironic, maybe even a bit funny, if someone had shot these two provocateurs.
