December 21, 201213 yr Certainly their captains will be more competent than that one of the Costa Concordia and hopefully more sober
December 21, 201213 yr It's interesting that a tour company from Phuket, sends tour some guides here when some of these ships arrive here .... it's big business and well orchestrated ... (There are some local guides too, but work for the Phuket company)
December 22, 201213 yr Author Certainly their captains will be more competent than that one of the Costa Concordia Costa Classica and Costa Victoria both called at Samui in 2012 but no Costs ships scheduled for Samui so far in 2013. Both happily arrived and left without incident!
December 22, 201213 yr Author Cool, wouldn't mind to see the Queen Mary 2 Yes she is a beautiful ship. But also try and see the P&O and Princess ships - beautiful lines as well unlike so many of the monstrosities calling themselves Cruise Ships these days.
December 22, 201213 yr Costa Classica and Costa Victoria both called at Samui in 2012 but no Costs ships scheduled for Samui so far in 2013. Both happily arrived and left without incident! Samui is a boutique destination, we don't want any no costs ships.
February 6, 201313 yr Two cruise ships at Nathon today! as scheduled! 6 AIDAdiva 1000 – 1800 6 ms Volendam 0700 – 1500 The bigger of the two, cannot read name! but think the AIDAdiva
February 6, 201313 yr The Ocean Dream cruised last year from Samui to Cambodia and back. This was run by a Chinese company but they never replied to my email. The Pattaya office also never had any information. I would love to find a short cruise out of Samui or Bangkok on a cruise liner so if anyone knows of one please let me know.

Lomprayah Ferry perhaps ? Or perhaps you can hop on the Queen Mary 2 on Monday 11th !!!! That might be worth seeing even if you can't hop on!!! !

The Pattaya office also never had any information. I would love to find a short cruise out of Samui or Bangkok on a cruise liner so if anyone knows of one please let me know. Star cruises used to regularly sail from Bangkok to Samui. They used to offer a cheap one way fare from Samui on any unused rooms for the return to Bangkok. try http://www.starcruis...s/thailand.aspx

The QM2 is not coming to Samui now, I have friends who we were hoping to meet off the ship in Nathon, but now say Cunard have pulled out of the Samui stop due to "navigation problems" and are going to Lam Chabang? near Pattaya instead.
February 8, 201313 yr Popular Post Ah, Laem Chanang is an interesting alternative to Samui. You'll hardly know the difference...
February 9, 201313 yr Author According to this she is currently in Singapore and due to leave for Samui at 20.00 S'por time. http://www.seascanner.com/schiffsposition.php?schiff=Queen+Mary+2 Guess we will have to wait and see. If she does not call here I wonder if the navigation issues relate to the local sharks?
February 9, 201313 yr Author According to this she is currently in Singapore and due to leave for Samui at 20.00 S'por time. http://www.seascanne...ff=Queen Mary 2 Guess we will have to wait and see. If she does not call here I wonder if the navigation issues relate to the local sharks? Having just posted that I found this from a passenger on board "I just received an email from the travel agent to inform me that Cunard has cancelled the stop at Koh Samui for the QM2 2013 world cruise. Koh Samui was the next stop after leaving Singapore. "Following a detailed review of the navigational aspects of Ko Samui it has become necessary for us to cancel Queen Mary 2's planned call on 11 February. As a result, we are extending our call to Laem Chabang arriving at 10am on 11 February and staying overnight. Queen Mary 2 will sail as planned in the evening of 12 February." So looks as if it may be correct. Shame.
February 11, 201313 yr Author Popular Post Well as of this morning she is clearly not here and showing as docked in Laem Chabang. The reason of Navigational issues one would have thought would have been discovered before putting Samui on the itinerary. When she was built she was the largest cruise ship in the world but there are now six bigger than her. However she is twice as large as the usual cruise ships we get here. This February we have Gross Tonnes Length Beam Draft Volendam 60,906 GT 237m 32.3m 8.1m AIDAdiva 68,500 GT 252m 32.2m 7m Oceana Nautica 30,277 GT 181m 25.5m 6m Minerva 12,449 GT 135m 20m 6m Queen Mary 2 150,000 GT 345m 41m 10m Seven Seas Voyager 42,363 GT 204m 29m 7m Azamara Journey 30,277 GT 181m 26m 6m and later during the year Aurora 76,152 GT 270m 32m 8m Legend of the Seas 70,000 GT 264m 32m 8m ms Columbus 2 30,277 GT 180m 25m 6m Celebrity Millennium 90.238 GT 294m 32m 8m Silver Shadow 28,258 GT 186m 25m 6m Ocean Princess 30,277 GT 181m 25m 6m Dawn Princess 77,499 GT 266m 32m 8.3m Sun Princess 77,499 GT 261m 32m 8.1m Diamond Princess 115,875 GT 290m 37m 8.3m The navigational charts show Chart Datum off Nathon at 10-12 m and even allowing for the tides that is not much for a ship of that size with a draft of 10m. So you can understand perhaps why they pulled out, but not why Samui was on the original voyage plan. PPPP!
