Keeping to the Chinese topics, I recall another member saying they liked Chinese crispy duck as do I and I mentioned I don't know where to get that in town.

 

Well I was walking by Walking Street's Bali Hai Chinese & Seafood touristic outdoor restaurant and looked on their menu. They had a Crispy Sichuan Duck for 365. Plus plus of course. Overall I didn't think their prices were as high as I expected considering the venue. For example mapo tofu 155 before plus plus. Haven't tried it yet but the crispy duck definitely sounds appealing. Also of course a place that has Peking Duck for a much higher price than 365!  The restaurant is also a nightly buffet but not a Chinese one for about 900 baht.

Just discovered Easy Health, this new (open seven months) restaurant, thanks to eatigo.  Discount is 50% at 1500 which is when I like to have my one meal of the day, trying to lose weight.  

Enjoyed my second meal today and will be back for more definitely.  Wonderful food and not "boring" at all.  Have tried their tuna salad (220) from the six-item salad menu;  salmon with maple leaf syrup sauce and mashed broccoli (250) from the nine-item Continental meals menu;  baked eggs with spinach and salmon (160) from the nine-item breakfast menu;  and hot and sour chicken soup aka Tom Yum gai (120) from the twenty-four item Thai meals menu.  Prices are before eatigo discount.   Other menu sections are Wraps, Bowls, Burritos, Soups, Fitness Meal, Frozen Yogurts, Smoothies and Desserts.  

Atmosphere is quiet, clean, air-conditioned.  No annoying music or tv.

Wifi works well.  All is good here IMHO.  Location on the wrong (east) side of Third Road is a problem.  It is between Boxing Roo bar and Buffalo bar.  Sure hope it survives and prospers!

You're on record but I doubt so overpriced with a 50 percent discount. I kind of agree I question the resonance of their concept in that location.

 

I'm not above predicting doom. I picked Sweetish for that honor. So fast!

No, I am smart enough to get a BETTER and PERFECT salad at Sizzler for 139 thb.

And for that price I even get 10 salads !

So, I agree, if someone is stupid enough to pay ONLY a salad 200 thb. I understand that some people can be scammers enough to sell it !

Frasers has middle brow Aussie pub food. Gians is a gourmet high-end Italian restaurant.

They're got a finished picture menu now but no staff that speaks more than a tiny bit of English and the Chinese on the menu doesn't translate very well with google photo translate.

They could potentially get a lot more business if they even had a one page of paper to give people with translations that correlated to the picture menu. 

I think it could be done in half an hour as it's not a very big menu, and you could ask the staff what the dish really is in Chinese if the printed text isn't clear. Yes, if I was them I would seek out such a service and just pay for it, but it's clear they aren't thinking about that. I'm not even sure they'd be open to this offer because like I said, they don't speak English.

It's still possible for non-Chinese speakers to eat there and struggle to understand the menu, but I think that's just too much effort for the vast majority to make that effort. So that's a lose lose. This charming little restaurant loses the potential business and potential customers never experience their food.

No bites on translation offers but I did find out how they're getting plenty of Chinese customers, which is how many local restaurants do -- WECHAT.

I also found out there are two OFF MENU items of interest.

 

Lion's Head Pork Meatballs (good with rice).

Very famous dish.

I went looking for this restaurant on under-construction soi 13/3, which has been a real mess for a while, tho at least it is now walkable.  Businesses on that soi must be having a hard time.

Finally found it!  The English name in tiny letters high up on their sign overhanging the street is " Grandma's Home".  Oddly, only the east side of this sign has the English, all Chinese on the west side.

No customers mid-day when I took a look in.  Pictures of some food on a wall, a nice looking menu, but all in Chinese.  Not even any Thai.

Agree that they sure could use a menu translation.  I didn't order anything.

I think it's more of a night crowd there which makes sense in that area. It's a small restaurant. I agree the street is a total mess there recently. The place is on the right hand side coming from 2nd and fairly close to 2nd rather than Beach. When the young man is working there he can say basic things about the dishes such as "pork", but that's it. It's really helpful to use google translate.

As if this isn't already obvious, it is not a place for people looking for Western style Chinese food but on the other hand, most of the dishes won't be super weird to westerners either. I have noticed an unfortunate pattern of sometimes oversalting. With salted Chinese mustard greens expected, but with other stir fried greens, clams, etc. not. The broths with the soups and noodle soups are sometimes robust and sometimes very little flavor. I like the prices and appreciate their food and can tolerate their level of inconsistency but I can imagine first time people going, getting unlucky and concluding they don't like it. There are already a number of dishes I just won't order there again, like the clams. Oh well!

Noticed while cruising by the the now closed down Pastrami on Rye restaurant that concrete mixing bags and other construction work has been going on, interesting.  Tonight, passing by on a baht bus I saw one of the original owners (bald headed guy) talking with one of the construction workers.

 

Now my curiosity is up.   Hopefully I let the cat out of the bag.  Their breakfasts were probably the best I've tasted in the Pattaya area and the guy that was instrumental in doing this was there tonight.  I could go on about the burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas, etc. but I'll save that for later when the proof is in the pudding.

 

I'm excited btw.  Should have stopped and asked, maybe next time.

I have to agree. We don't need that kind of personalized attacks on restauranteurs here. Such unadulterated nastiness is definitely not in the spirit of the purposes of this thread. That doesn't mean people have to always post positive pablum either.

My reply/comment to post 2983 regarding POR did not make it here so let me repeat from a reliable source. The new restaurant will not be called POR but probably Big Kahuna and the menu and format will have differences. The pictured gentleman I believe is Jim, a cousin of the former owner who returned to USA for health reasons.

There is a new Chinese restaurant going to open shortly, next to the Poseidon on Tappraya Rd (Jomtien). Don't get excited however, as it appears geared towards Chinese tour groups and that would be a disappointment.

Chinese certainly have their own standard of manners and politeness which definitely differs from mine.

 

I think it's great if a restaurant caters to them so they can be together and enjoy each others company.

I agree, this could be similar to the Chinese restaurant in front of the Coliseum on Thepprasit. Something to look forward to is all tour busses parking in the area.

Just an observation:  I ate at Texas Chicken at the large service station (hwy 7 motorway) between Bangkok and Pattaya and it was great.  The chicken is wonderful and the biscuits are fantastic.  Move over KFC.........

I hope that is so. The guy is from Wisconsin and worked the kitchen at Pastrami on Rye. Always good natured and friendly. Did a good job on the eggs over easy. Not always easy to find in SE Asia.

Tried Tinnies in Jomtien for the first time yesterday. Had an excellent pepper steak pie, crinkle cut chips and garden peas. I ordered a jug of gravy but it was really superfluous as there was plenty in the pie itself. Tinnies will now be my "go to" place for pie and chips.

I resisted (just) the temptation to leave the premises with a whole variety of biscuits, fruit pies and cakes.

What is an Anzac cookie?

Was as in there myself two nights ago, they aren’t cheap. The quality of the Pies is worth paying for though.
