Buriram Drought Affects More Than 200,000 Households

More than 200,000 households in Buriram have suffered from drought.

Buriram (บุรีรัมย์) province announced that drought has affected more than 200,000 households in the province and affected more than 100 rai of farmland.

Buriram disaster prevention and mitigation officer Pornchet Sangthong (พรเชษฐ์ แสงทอง) revealed that Buriram province is facing severe drought situation and as drought-affected areas have expanded, affected around 239,000 households or 937,000 people. He said that they the people are facing great difficulties, adding that around 19 districts have been declared red-zone areas.

Two more districts, which are Prachonchai (ประโคนชัย)and Ban-kruad (บ้านกรวด) districts are expected to also be declared as disaster zones within this week. Mr. Pornchet said that the office has mobilized trucks to transport water for consumption to distribute to the people, while the army in the province has also helped procuring more water for distribution. However, Mr. Pornchet said that the water is still not enough to meet the people’s demands.

Mr. Pornchet said that the office has coordinated with local bodies to conduct survey and provide initial assistance to the people.

Yeah, 100 rai!!! The waste water from the showers of 200,000 people could probably irrigate 100 rai!!!
