What Coop Bank, in which country?

Googling first would have avoided you showing your ignorance smile.png

You would have found this:-

http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/servlet/Satellite/1193206375355,CFSweb/Page/Bank

Or http://www.cooperativebank.co.nz or http://www.co-opbank.co.ke or etc.

Glad to see awareness.

i knew you would get there eventually - with enough clues.....

Fraudulent transactions in the UK are covered by the Payment Services Regulations 2009. If your card is used fraudulently it's up to the bank to prove you were involved otherwise they are required to refund you. They are supposed to refund you instantly while they figure out what's happened but they often try and wriggle out of that. They're banks after all!

You can help your self by withdrawing cash inthe Bank with your passport and card and avoid the 150 bts fee as well. If you dont want to do that look for an Aeon Bank within a Mall, they are also free and Malls are probably safer than outside. I have a daily limit and have never had any problems to date.

The upshot here is...from all the sources different people have posted here... there doesn't seem to be any legal basis for a UK bank to tell its cardholders that their otherwise legally mandated consumer fraud protections will somehow be excluded when that UK card is used in Thailand.

I have asked the OP to post the relevant text from that warning letter, since it sounds pretty unbelievable and it is unheard of in the card industry... and I am working in that industry for many years already.

Given the lack of responsibility assumed by Thai banks for virtually
all kinds of fraud, even if committed by their own employees, does anyone know
of an insurance company willing to underwrite this risk on a personal basis? Have
searched on line but nothing found.

Why not just make it simple by using a prepayd card(s) wich you fund online from your normal bank with the money needed by day(s) , your losses could be a minimum in worse case...
