The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is preparing to prevent and mitigate the drought problem for this year, after four districts in the metropolis have already received damage from the dry spell.

Bangkok Deputy Governor Wanlop Suwannadee (วัลลภ สุวรรณดี) spoke on preparations to address the drought problem this year. Nongchok (หนองจอก), Minburi (มีนบุรี), Saimai (สายไหม) and Bangkhae (บางแค) districts have already been affected. This year, the BMA has established drought prevention and mitigation centers in every district to accommodate reports from the public, and task centers for the prevention and solving of fire disasters were also erected. The BMA has also requested that the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority provide water support during the dry season. Mr. Wanlop said he is most concerned about grass fires and burning of garbage, and he ask that people clear out grass in such a way that fire breaks are present when grass or garbage is to be burned.

Owners of land neighboring empty plots are also asked to help monitor against fires and coordinate with the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation office of the BMA is cases of fire. 10 fire sub-stations are also to be added this year.

The Deputy Governor said the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department has requested 20 million baht of budget for such proceeding, but the BMA usually has a central emergency budget for accommodating such request.
