^ unsure I'd go there 16th, the mere hint of a public holiday or auspicious day etc and Immigration may well be closed:

some calendars list

Tuesday 16 April - Substitution for Songkran Festival (Sat 13 & Sun 14 April)

and I note the Thai Embassy calendar for KL/Malaysia also shows they are closed Tuesday 16 April 2013

also Bank Of Thailand notifies: Banks will close on Friday 12th April 2013 re-opening on Wednesday 17th April 2013

Insurance co where wife works also closed 12-16 inclusive, reopen Wednesday 17th.

Plus Monday the 8th is a holiday and immigration will be closed.

Might be easier to say that immigration will open on the 9th to the 11th and the 17th to the 19th.

Believe you mean your permitted to stay ends on the 16th so your 30 day extension will start after that - you lose nothing by doing early.

I think it is your permit to stay that expires on the 17th not your visa.

If you have a tourist visa they will give you a 30 day extension unless you have already gotten one.

If visa exempt entry, non immigrant visa or tourist visa extension you will apply for a 7 day extension which will be denied and you will be given 7 days to leave the country. You should have no problem getting it since you apparently have a flight out of the country that is within those 7 days that you can show them.
