Freedom of speech is one thing---But this -I really am sick to death of the publicity these red shirts are getting-it is all for photo's- names- objecting to this objecting to that for what ??? they want more power than they have-for gods sake they are in power.

It goes for ANY dissruptive get together whatever colour you wear. Instead of a nice orderly march to object, Have to have usually ugly encounters, but the joke being most are for releasing wrong doers, or if they are not getting all they want... like little kids in supermakets out of control.

So, after all the rubbish I've read here, let's try to condense what we know of the topic :-)

- a red-shirt faction demands all CC judges resign
- threaten to block the court (building) if demand not met (aka it's on you if you don't)
- Pheu Thai MP and red-shirt leader will spearhead impeachment drive because CC accepted to look at some petition of others (PT distances from this only)
- red-shirt leader to lodge a complaint that CC judges get paid and want their salary stopped / blocked
- again a rs-leader to really start impeachment drive now.
- "we are going to come up with a strategy to make them respond to our call" (aka it's really your fault)
- to emphasize the seriousness rs-leader's statements are alternated with nice music

My opinion: spoiled children without a cause but a need to win whatever way. Any problems which will come will be only your and not our fault.

As usual the police just lets them. This peaceful bunch doesn't warrant 50,000 on standby

I believe that people can demonstrate outside any building but if they impede the regular working of state officials that would be naughty and the police should do something.

If there is a law against it would it apply to Thaksin employes?

Yes.

The police would do just what they did in 2010. SFA

You are rite of course there is a law against it but as you said the police would stay away from it and it is pretty obvious the current government hasn't got the balls to call the army out to do the work of the police force hence Thaksin can do any thing he wants except enter Thailand a free man. And he is working on that right now threw his employes.wai2.gif

The red-shirt leaders took turns in making statements on the stage

alternating with musical performances to entertain the protesters

gathered outside the Constitutional Court.

Does that include Thaksin warbling 'My Way'?

I think one of the songs was "screw your mothers" sung in memory of their dear leader.

I think that one was led by Jatuporn

The big difference is if it is a red shirt sponsored one it gets police protection from other colored shirts trying to drown them out and instead of keeping people out the police are directing traffic to help with the parking.

You've summed it up

The actions of a playground. Shame it impacts on Thailand, but that's not a priority for this democratic (Thai?) Government.

Ah well, lets rush to teacher "it's not fair" boo hoo

I bet they were playing that dirty, rice farmer Issan music too.

Speaking as a musician, that isn't music, it's akin to torture, sort of like water boarding, but without a point.

//edit/added a comma/wouldn't want the rhythmic pentameter to go wonky.

the direct election of new judges

Can anyone name a country where the judges are elected?

The good old USA

I'd thought two previous posters had settled the matter of sweeping replies that are all encompassing and which lack delineations.

So kindly go here to discover something new to you in respect to how state judges are selected: : http://www.americanbar.org/content/dam/aba/migrated/leadership/fact_sheet.authcheckdam.pdf

The United States judiciary has appointed judges only, subject to confirmation by the Senate after a candidate judge selected by the president is nominated by him (soon to be "her" after the 2016 presidential election). The chief justice of the Supreme Court is the head of one of the three branches of the U.S. Government, ie, the Judiciary.

As to Thailand, we have another bread and circuses event underway at the Constitution Court (rice and circuses?). Another political battle between the legislative and the judiciary of the Thai government is underway, again with no peaceful settlement in sight.

In the United States, as a part of the balancing of powers, the U.S. Judiciary has the power of reviewing Acts of Congress in respect of their constitutionality. Conversely, the Congress can and does enact laws that proscribe the cases the Supreme Court may or may not accept for adjudication. And that's that.

In Thailand, this very question is a free for all, another circus.

Where is Zhou Zhou? Perhaps outside the co rts demonstrating with no access to a computer?

No he shows up every once in a while with a I like on a negative post.

Maybe he is out walking the mut trying to smooth his bruised ego.

The mut took a sh-t kicking on "Red Shirt activists vow to block constitution Court office"

and hasn't done well here either. He has a habit of disappearing when his nonsense is not bought hook line and sinker.

To be honest zhou zhou has been mellowing out a bit and can plainly see no grounds what so ever to even try to deny or justify the actions the red shirts are taking.

I thought all Thais were lovely child-like creatures, walking around wai'ing each other all the time, mumbling sweet sounding jibberish, like my Retire to Thailand brochure told me? This is an outrage, why can't these yobs just go home and leave us alone? What nerve.

Strangely he's very reasonable on non political posts.

Even stranger kimamey is that I think your comment applies to everyone of us. We are all a fairly good bunch on TV until we get to discussing politics, or any subject that may involve a 'hang em high' situation, at which point our respective Gremlins display themselves.
