The Lions team of '71 might be in their sixties now but could hane easily beaten that pub team last tuesday.

Roll on saturday to a waratahs b team. biggrin.png Such a shame

Yes ... a great result for the Lions Team.

Not much better then a training run and while I didn't get to see the actual game, I did catch the highlight reels and the Lions silky backline movements were great to watch.

When the time of the First Test match comes, I'm sure the combined might of the Lions Team will go in (quite rightly) as favourites.

I hope that the home crowd can lift the Wallabies to play at a higher level.

One thing you should be proud of and that is you don't have a 'Barmy Army' unless you think of David Warner, as a one man barmy armylaugh.png

Update from DownUnder ..
2013 Lions Tour: Winger George North in doubt for first Test against Wallabies
4755524-3x2-340x227.jpg

British and Irish Lions winger George North is in doubt for the first Test against Australia as he struggles to overcome a hamstring injury. North left the field with the injury in Tuesday night's 64-0 win over the Combined Country XV in Newcastle, a match in which he scored two tries.

The hulking Welsh winger has been rested for Saturday night's tour match against New South Wales in Sydney and there are growing concerns within the Lions camp that the injury will rule him out of the first Test in Brisbane on June 22.

The Lions have already lost props Cian Healy (ankle) and Gethin Jenkins (calf) for the tour, while doubts remain as to whether winger Tommy Bowe (hand) will prove his fitness to play again.

The tourists have already called four players into the squad, with props Alex Corbisiero and Ryan Grant, winger Simon Zebo and centre Billy Twelvetrees summoned to Australia.

Fly half Owen Farrell, centres Brian O'Driscoll and Manu Tuilagi have also been troubled with niggling injuries.

Overall

As Cheika himself said, these additions now give the Tahs a shot.
Reality is though that they’re still a sub-par version of a super team
that won’t even be making the finals this year. Expect the Lions
firepower to be too much for the blues in the second half. But if
they’re within touching distance on the donger, you just never know…..

15:Halfpenny

14:North

13:O'Driscoll

12:Roberts

11:Bowe Cuthbert

10:Sexton

9:Phillips

I think the backs are going to be heavily influenced by Gatlands Welsh bias:

8: Faletao

7:Warburton

6:Lydiate

5:AW Jones

4:Gray

3:Vunipola

2:Hibbard

1:A Jones

After a good display today from certain individuals, notably Davies, AWJ and O'Connell, I think people are playing themselves into the the first test.

Above was my thoughts on Gatlands pick, but I am not sure he will now stick with a Welsh back row bias and with injuries taking a toll, this is my first test team on current performance.

15:Halfpenny ( Nailed )

14:North Injury doubt so probably Maitland, who didn't impress today

13:O'Driscoll Almost certain

12:Roberts Injury doubt but Davies seriously impressed today

11:Bowe Cuthbert Cuthbert has not impressed, so I think a chance for Zebo, who was good in the first half and made a great try saving tackle in the dying moments

10:Sexton ( Nailed )

9:Phillips ( Nailed )

I think the backs are going to be heavily influenced by Gatlands Welsh bias: ( My previous thoughts )

8: Faletao I actually think he will go with Heaslip, the right choice

7:Warburton ( Nailed )

6:Lydiate Not so sure now, Croft had a great game, but I think O'Brien is right in the mix, I can't call this one!!

5:AW Jones Not exactly nailed but I think did enough today to secure his place.

4:Gray Not only an injury doubt but O'Connell is in storming form, almost certain

3:Vunipola Sealed his spot today, but I won't say nailed

2:Hibbard I don't think Youngs did enough today

Wade & Barritt called in to the LIONS Squad

add to that shane williams.not a misprint.he's been in highbernation he's got a beard.

Talk about strange, retired from Internationals for 2 years, playing in Japan and heading for Australia as a pundit for a radio station and suddenly starting a Lions game.

Bizarre or odd, I am not sure which

Can't see the Lions winning another game from here on.

Noted ... Lucky, I'm not a Yank, otherwise I wouldn't have understood that!

Actually, without a serious lead-up game for the Wallabies, combinations will be rusty.

My head overrules my heart and I'm tipping an Lions Win on Saturday night.

Brumbies defeat tourists 14-12 in Canberra

4763862-3x4-340x453.jpg

The Brumbies have clung on for a dramatic 14-12 victory

over the British and Irish Lions in Canberra to become

the first provincial team to beat the touring side in 16 years.

The win in front of a crowd of 21,655 makes the Brumbies the

first provincial side to beat the Lions since South Africa's

Northern Transvaal in 1997, now known as the Bulls.

And it was the first loss to an Australian provincial side

for the Lions since Queensland were victorious in 1971.

Wallabies announce Folau to debut during first test

4769772-16x9-700x394.jpg

British and Irish rugby fans are roaring into Brisbane, bringing much-needed relief to the tourism industry.

The British and Irish Lions say they will target debutante Israel Folau in the first test of the highly-anticipated series but the Wallabies are confident the former Origin and Kangaroos player will hold his own.

Some short interviews from both sides and an emphasis on Israel Folau ... Here

Brian O'Driscoll wary of 'clever' Wallabies

4768304-3x2-700x467.jpg

Decorated centre Brian O'Driscoll rates Australia as one of the world's "smartest" teams and warned the Wallabies could pull out some surprises in this weekend's first Test against the British and Irish Lions.

The Irish star, returning to the scene of his greatest Lions triumph in Brisbane, said the Wallabies have clever players able to exploit the tourists, who are chasing their first series victory in 16 years and have won only two of their last nine Tests.

O'Driscoll, 34, the second-most capped player in rugby union history with 131 Test appearances - 125 for Ireland and six with the Lions - partners Welshman Jonathan Davies in the centres, but is respectful of what Robbie Deans's Wallabies may offer at Lang Park.

Lot's of stuff from the ABC jurnos here with game analyses, interviews (Audio) with Brian O'Driscoll and Lions assistant coach Andy Farrell plus links to other stories.

Just trying to bring you some media that you mightn't get in your country.

suncorp-night.jpg.gif

The game is being played at Suncorp Stadium, widely regarded as one of the best grounds in Australia for Union, League or Soccer. The game is sold-out and has a capacity of 52,000 ... and I'm sure, many of those fans will be in a Lions Jersey.

We had light rain here yesterday but won't affect the playing surface apart from the dew component.

Come game time, should be 12 - 15C ... it's Winter here!
