I thought the phones were 3G on two frequencies? 2100 on all models and either 850 or 900 depending on if you choose the A or non A version.

No, the 3G band or bands that any particular phone can receive are only those that the manufacturer decides to equip the phone for. Some fancy phones come capable receiving on four or five different 3G bands.

Normally in Thailand, though, most phones sold here in the past have been dual band 3G as you mentioned, either 850/2100 Mhz or 900/2100 Mhz... 2100 Mhz being kind of an international band, 850 being used by True and DTAC 3G locally, and 900 being used by AIS 3G locally.

However, the one phone that sparked the exchange above was specced as only have 3G on 2100 Mhz, which as I noted, would be quite a disadvantage right now in Thailand, though less so perhaps after a year or two has passed and the major carriers get their new 2100 Mhz 3G networks built out.

AIS, True and DTAC only began deploying 3G on 2100 Mhz earlier this spring after gaining permission from the Thai government, and all three carriers all have a lot of capital work to do to build out their new 2100 Mhz 3G networks. Right now, a lot of areas in the country simply won't have 3G on the 2100 Mhz band, depending on the carrier involved.

As the saying goes, it takes two to tango... Your phone has to be capable of receiving on a particular 3G band, and the carrier you're using has to be providing service on that same band. If, for example, you have a 2100 Mhz only 3G phone and True or DTAC only is running 850 Mhz in the area where you are, you're out of luck.

Now, to bring this back to the thread topic...it looks like regarding the I-Mobile IQ X... that it's specced for 850 and 2100 Mhz 3G, which would be great with either DTAC or True Move service... but not AIS.

http://www.siamphone.com/en/i-mobile/iqx.htm

Then there's the I-Mobile IQ Xa....which is the AIS oriented version with the 900/2100 Mhz 3G combo, which would work best for AIS customers, since AIS' legacy 3G network runs on the 900 Mhz band.

So not content with a quad processor phone boasting an 18M camera you now want it to be multi band 3G and LTE all for less than 10,000THB?

For real?

TGBKK sorry you are confusing me now!

Familyonthemove said that he thought the IQX range was dual (multi) band 3G on 2100 then either 850 or 900 depending on the flavour of IQX which is how I understand them to be as well.

You start off saying no he is wrong but in your next paragraph say yes?????

Sorry, it's gotten confusing because another prior poster originally brought some no-name model into this thread... and it was THAT phone (a 2100 Mhz only 3G model) that I was responding to after he recommended it here...

Then Family responded to my post on the 2100 Mhz only no name model, but now I see his comments were instead aimed at the I-Mobile IQ-X models (not the entirely different phone I was commenting on). Thus the confusion.

So yes, it's correct that there are two flavors of the I-Mobile IQ-X, one with 850/2100 Mhz 3G suited to DTAC and True Move customers, and then the A variant with 900/2100 Mhz 3G suited to AIS customers.

Thanks for the clarification. wai.gif Those that I-Mobile is using are the common kinds of 3G band pairings found on phones sold in Thailand. But a 2100 Mhz only 3G phone made by some other manufacturer is not a particularly good idea in any setting.

In a moment of madness I uninstalled Adobe Flash which is obviously fairly useful. Tried reinstalling it from XDA but it’s not working right. Could someone look at the version installed on the IQX and post it for me so I can hunt it down? Cheers.

On my IQ XA looking at the app info in settings it just says Adobe Flash Player 11.1 version 11.1.115.34

When I select the flash player settings app in my apps it takes me to this web page

https://settings.adobe.com/flashplayer/mobile

Don't know if this helps at all. Hope so.

Another system update tonight. Build number went from 1.15+ to 1.22+. Seems like I could un-install some apps that before I could only disable (Facebook, Twitter and Office Suite) so I think I have more space now.

3G on ONLY one band... 2100 Mhz??? That's not very accommodating or user friendly....

How many bands would you like it to be on?

whichever band is available where i happen to be

Maybe you would of been better off choosing a phone that was not built, sold and marketed solely for the Thai market?

Now you are just being obtuse. 2100 is not universally availabe in Thailand so a single band phone like the jiyau be pointless here. Get it? Its not that hard to grasp.

And pickles his phone is also available in the phils to name at least one additional country

For real?

It doesn't have a real 18Mp camera. There is no 18mp camera module at the market for telephones. Sony is preparing 20.1 Mp (Hanomi) and maximum out there is 13Mp. So it has most likely 12Mp camera, interpolated (crap) to 18Mp by software and it doesn't increase photo quality at all.

MTK cpus don't support quad 3g. Atleast, I never saw one. They are either 850/1900/2100 or 900/2100 mhz. But they do support quad gsm on 850/900/1800/1900 mhz. There is no LTE on MTK cpus either.

Btw, there are much better phones than IQX out there in China, cheaper too.

Received my bight green and black case today and have to admit its pretty good. Phone is held in a gel mount with a side flapped opening. The opening has slots for 2 credit cards and a small insert for some money. Only worry would be the magnetic clip against the cards but its only my Oyster so easy to replace if damaged.

Not bad for 350THB.

i-Mobile IQX rebranded to Starmobile Knight Android Jelly bean that has 18 Megapixels camera

Starmobile is now giving us more thrills on their recently announced line up of Android phone. One of those 11 devices that will surely catch your attention in terms of specifications and features is the Starmobile Knight. This device sports an 18 megapixels rear camera and 8 megapixels on front, both has autofocus and a BSI sensor that helps enhance photo quality at low light shots. Isn’t it awesome?
Starmobile-Knight.jpg

Starmobile Knight Specs and features

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS
4.7-inch IPS HD Display in Corning Gorilla Glass
1280 × 720 pixel resolution
18 megapixels rear camera with AF, LF and BSI
8 megapixels front camera with AF and BSI
1.2GHz Quad-core processor
PowerVR SGX544MP GPU
1GB RAM
4GB Internal storage
support up to 32GB on microSD
Dual SIM / Dual Standby
3G / HSPA+/ Wi-Fi / Wi-Fi hotspot
Bluetooth / GPS
Non removable 2000mAh battery
The device was also featured at Unbox teaser post titled ‘Starmobile K’, also credit goes to those who pointed a link to the original device name of Starmobile Knight. Knight is a rebranded i-Mobile IQX, a mobile brand from Thailand where the said device is available.
Specs above are top average, with only one weakness which is the non removable battery. 1GB RAM on this device I think would do and renders the speed you want knowing its quad core processor. Design also looks sexy on its slim body with slightly rounded edge that makes you think of comparing to iPhone device.
Here’s more about i-Mobile IQX (Starmobile Knight), a post from this site pointed out that it has only 12.7 megapixels. They take apart all the parts of i-Mobile IQX and found out that the camera module has only 12.7 megapixels. To support on what they found out, they also pointed the Mediatek CPU used which is MT6589 supports only 13 MP while i-Mobile IQX announced with 18 MP camera. See photo below, credits to the respective site for the photo as watermarked.
Starmobile+Knight.jpg

To end up this case and to clear all your doubts, i-Mobile personnel mentioned on the forum updated that what found out is right. The ‘software interpolation has come a long way’ to attain that 18 megapixels.

For anyone needing 850, 900 and 2,100 for 3G - I've just seen the new iMobile 6.1 in the iMobile service centre in MBK. It also has a new 1.5 GHz quad core processor and a 5 inch 720 HD screen.

It has the same "18 MP" camera as the IQ X .... but in my opinion with these tiny phone sensors 8 MP is probably more than enough and anything more just gives you more noise .... so 13 MP is OK for me. Does anyone really do big poster sized prints from mobile phone snaps?

Not 100% if I fixed it or it fixed its self.

Tried the long power press with out luck. Removed the SIM and MicroSD plugged in the power left it for 5 minutes then log pressed the power and it came back. More luck than judgement I think.

When you say 'the long power press', to reset the phone it should be 'hold down the power AND volume down button at the same time for more than five seconds'. Is that what you meant/did?

No its not what I did/mean.

A 20+ second press of the power button alone can sometime cause the phone to reboot if its stuck. You are correct though saying powering on with the power button and the Vol button depressed will get to the recovery mode so you can do a full reset. Useful to know but obviously a bit drastic if you can avoid it.

Pressing power and volume down does a reboot (similar to taking the battery out), it does NOT do a full reset.

I've done it on my own IQ XA when it 'locked up and wouldn't switch on'. When I pressed the two buttons it rebooted and everything was saved and in the same condition it was in immediately prior to locking up.

Incidentally when mine locked up I had fully charged the phone and the power lead was still plugged in. I unplugged the power lead to check something then immediately changed my mind and, without thinking about the phone being fully charged, plugged the power lead back in. The phone locked as I put the lead in. As I said, I pressed the two buttons and it reset to the last condition it was in. Everything saved and remembered.

+!

My mistake joys of assumption. Different phones/ROM's use different key combinations to access they lower level functions. I have used pwr + Vol- before to get ot the recovery mode where you can reset/restore a phone. As you correctly said on the IQX it takes you to the 'Factory' mode for testing and rebooting.

I wonder if the long press on the pwr initiates the same reset as pwr +Vol-?
