So, I somehow got 100m of 1-core 1.5mm2 instead of 2-core. Plan to get 2-core for most of the lights circuits. But, will also try to use the 1-core as much as possible. My recall of the NEC is to tape the ends of wire with the proper color if the wire is not the correct color. ie: tape black if the wire is grey/white for Live.

My question is: is that (tape with proper color at the end) the OK way to do it in Thailand? Or, what?

Come on Steve, the Thai way is just to leave it or use some weird coding involving purple smile.png

Taping or sleeving the ends with the correct colour is acceptable worldwide. Rider for the UK (and maybe others), it's not permitted to use a green/yellow (earth) core for any other purpose even if you sleeve it.

I've seen on a few occasions, every wire was black. biggrin.png

That was probably not installed by a Thai, probably a foreigner named Henry Ford.

So, with that single core, just be sure to cut the identified conductor 10% shorter than the live conductor. Will save you 2% on your electrical bill as the electrons will return home faster.

And just because the wire may be say Red at the your Consumer Unit/Main Circuit box does not mean it will still be Red at its termination point...say the shower water heater. I think it's a Thai tradition to mix up the colors to add more variety (and electrical surprises). tongue.png

Not only the electricians, my red & green TOT telephone wire ended up white & blue by the time it reached the phone.

Interesting title ''Wire Color Coding in Thailand''I thought this was where I would find info about what colour was live neutral and earth. Boy was I wrong.
