Hi guys,

Ok, I've just ordered IPTV from True. It cost about 4,000 Baht to get that thing installed and will let you guys now how it works.

If anyone is interested, here is the link:

Of course you need a True phone line and be in Bangkok to get the service.

When will True realize that Thailand is not just made up off Bangkok. Or the small old city (moat area) of Chiang Mai. So aggresive in business yet so far from reaping the benefits of all the investments that they have made.

AIS, TT&T, TOT, CAT, DTAC - all of them far away from providing what customers need. A reliable telecommunications industry in Thailand.

Wow. A HUGE range of 10 channels, the majority of them crap & no sports.

You need a set top box installed for your TV, can't watch on your PC.

Who are they pitching this crap at?

How exactly does this work? Does this signal come in over your phone line? Is it dependent on the speed of your ADSL connection? Why is is so expensive for only a few channels?

Looks like it's about 1000 a month to get all 10 channels.

UBC gold on DSTV is 33 channels (including sports, news, movies and documentaries) for about 1600 per month.

No brainer..... UBC

EDIT: And you get 20 'radio' channels as well, not that I listen to them.

Ok, I explain...

I rent a condo where it is not allowed to install DSTV dish on your balcony (yep...).

What are the options? Ok, I got 15 channels from the "condo" owners big dish but ... no Star World and no "Movie On-Demand"... and it seems that it is just a question of weeks to get all the channels from UBC through this IPTV service...

How it works: you get your signal through your ADSL connection.

OK, I let you know how good the quality is when they'll come install it.

Well, I don't LIKE True (their Internet sucks) but if we had to count on TOT or CAT Telecom to come up with ideas as good as their Thai Mobile ridiculous cell company?

We would still be on dialups in Thailand...

Hi guys,

Ok, True came and installed IPTV last weekend and here are my first impressions:

- Modem is NOT a router, still uses PPPOE connection (sucks). If you want to get IPTV, take the WIFI package, it is more expensive but better.

- I am VERY impressed with the resolution and clarity of Star World and Reality TV, better than from satellite (I had satellite before)

- I've never been interrupted/had dropped signal so far, neither got any "slow" or "cracked" image.

- PVR (or personal storage) only works with free Thai TV channels... so no use for me (girlfriend is Chinese)

- Movies on Demand: Not good: so far, they only have one movie and the resolution is not good, but again it's free. I think they are preparing a software upgrade to resolve this issue.

- Other channels: interesting Fashion TV with some hot naked babes at night

- The rest: Fox TV (useless). ... SkyNews (good), Trace TV (music - good).

If you have any questions, don't hesitate :o

There’s an article in today’s Bangkok Post about plans of TRUE to push IPTV on a large scale. Given Thailand’s limited bandwidth capacity, I wonder how this is going to affect download speeds in general for Internet users.

In case the link should not work, I enclose the article also as a PDF file.

I wonder what this will do the speed of the True network in Bangkok. :o

It does not have very good ratings at the moment, without the extra TV traffic.

Ok, just to keep you informed:

Still impeccable image and sound for most channels, I am very happy so far!

Now the VOD, Video on Demand, sucks.... I'm still waiting for their "upgrade"....

Let's lift this old topic up.

It's been few years since it was introduced so there must be more users nowadays ?

What are your thoughts on quality vs satellite and channels available ?

Posted

I just found True IPTV pages and it seems they only have very limited channel line up of 14 or so.

Any of the companies providing similar package to Truevisions satellite or cable ?

Posted

It's not clear from their website what the actual cost per month is. It says 190 'service' for the set top box but I couldn't see the cost for the various packages.

Posted

Only packages i saw on True IPTV was the basic with 14 or so channels and paying more you get some "movie" channel and then there was karaoke singing package where you get titles from their servers and can sing.....

i had trueiptv .. last week i got a call on my landline phone, it was True and they cancelled iptv, shortly after the signal was gone, they said someone would come by and pickup the cable box but they never came, guess i'll have to take it in to a true coffee shop and try to get my deposit back..

during the time i had it, it malfunctioned several times and technician had to come and fix it by hooking up a laptop computer to the box and screwing around with it for an hour was kinda wondering if it was even worth it anyways, i guess good riddance to that but kinda like [V] international, way better than [V] Thailand and MTV, also nomore DW, euronews :)

Any luck getting your deposit back on this?

I spoke with True on no fewer than four separate occasions regarding the IPTV set top box, they made commitments and "appointments" with me to come and pick it up, and they never showed, and they never called.

I tried to physically return it to the True Shop at Fortune Town, and they refused to accept it, telling me that I had to call True on the phone, which I explained I had already done many times. Classic Thai conundrum.

My next move is to stomp into the True Shop at Siam Soi 4 and stage a sit-in until somebody can make a decision.

I am open to many flexible solutions, but I am not willing to permit True to simply cancel the service and then pretend that they never charged me a hefty fee as a deposit on the set top box. It belongs to them, not to me. Indeed, if I could use it for any other purpose, I would. But it is dead technology without their service.

I want my deposit back.

Maybe a blistering letter to the editor of the two farang newspapers in the Kingdom might elicit a response from them.

With True your lucky if you ever get anything back.

Wife cancelled their cable tv few months back and was told deposit is not refundable, you can only use it to "pay" for other True cable tv services. Yes, they told her you can only use the deposit to continue your subscription with them blink.gif

After dealing with them several years i kinda understand those who run pirated systems. That's the only way to get your deposit back ph34r.gif
