KResearch expects 25.4 million tourists in Thailand in 2013

BANGKOK, 8 June 2013 (NNT) - Despite the strong baht and disappointing global economic outlook, the Kasikorn Research Center (KResearch) has predicted that the number of international tourist arrivals this year will reach 25.4 million.

KResearch said that Thailand remains an attractive destination due to its value-for-money products and services and the expansion of airline routes.

During the first four months of this year, nearly 9 million tourists visited Thailand, which represents a 19 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The Chinese market has a pivotal role in the country’s tourism business as 1.53 million Chinese visitors travelled to the kingdom from January to April of 2013, up by nearly 100 percent from last year.

The numbers of Japanese and South Korean visitors also recorded significant increases during the same period.

As for European travelers, their arrivals continued to grow, but at a slower pace due to economic problems at home.

KResearch estimated that a tourist arrival figure of 25.4 million could be seen in the whole year of 2013, which would generate income of 1.14 trillion baht for the country.

Not only that but these will be high quality tourists rather than those pesky back packer undesirables of yesteryear. I am surprised the revenue figure is so low...

This research was requested and funded by the TAT, based on ( questionable ) figures supplied by the TAT and it's findings are in line with those required by the TAT.

You know this or sure of course? Whereas most people would see that Kasikorn Research do their own independant reports and are not subject to requests

Before KASIKORN RESEARCH CENTER (KResearch) rose to its present status as a subsidiary company of the Bank, it had its beginnings in 1970s as an academic unit within the Bank itself. KResearch’s predecessor unit was first tasked with producing academic information for the Bank’s clients and the general public. It also served as an academic resource for other units within the Bank, producing a twice-monthly news summary, which included many topics, such as general economic conditions, industrial outlook, agriculture industry, money and banking, and foreign economies. Also published were annual reports on specialized economic subjects. In 1984, its mission was broadened to become the Academic Section, with its academic work broadening for the benefit of the Bank and the public. In 1994, the KASIKORNBANK sought to augment the capabilities and performance of the Academic Department in keeping abreast of contemporary developments in the global economy, business, money and banking, and decided to give the Academic Department more autonomy – giving it the freedom to conduct its research work into a wider range of topics.

It was facetious, it was sarcasm and all in true TV fashion

Quote from OP:-

KResearch said that Thailand remains an attractive destination due to its value-for-money products and services and the expansion of airline routes.

Unquote.

Re-write

KResearch said that Thailand remains to be seen an attractive destination due to its value-for-money products and services and the expansion of airline routes only by the unknowing and misinformed..

If things go on as they are all that will be left of the Thai tourist industry is 'the remains' - as in corpse.

First our PM urged TAT to concentrate on high-end tourists instead of numbers. Returning forom the Maldives the PM expressed her wish to concentrate on high-end tourists instead of numbers. Now we still have organisations triumphantly express believes Thailand will get 25.4m tourists in 2013

.

What's a girl around here got to do to get her wish fulfilled? Demand, shout, threaten with her Big Brother?

Well, volume is it then - just look at Pattaya. Restaurants empty but Walking Street packed with Asian tourists from Japan to the Middle East; some chit chatting their (cheap) way with some ladyboys on the street; the Russians sharing a big bottle of cheap beer in the meantime.

A far cry from what I've seen 10, 15, 20 or 25 years ago. The quality of the business is definitely in free fall towards the bowl!

divide by 4 to cut out visa runners and you have the real number.

BTW, who says they don't count non tourist visas?

Currently 2 million Chinese here, tons of Africans, Indians you name it ...

most are here to stay and therefore join the runs. Each run counts as a tourist entry.

Are the Swedes comming back?

Being a swede myself, I dare to say that I suspect that they (the swedes) are not coming back. I think that goes for all nationalities, I mean coming back, people in general that are stopping for one or another reason to come to a touristcontry will most probably never ever coming back again.

I think the trend now for swedes are Turkey, USA (New York-Florida) and Caribia..... The swedes have been going to Thailand quite often since 1992 up till now. But I think that our generation that have come here now for so many years are being tired of going all the time to the same places and tired of the scams, dirty beaches and dirty roads and increases in prices........

So maybe it is goodbye from the swedes, ... But who knows....... new generations grows up,,, both in Sweden as well as in Thailand, and boys meet girls in the bars... and it all starts again... maybe..clap2.gif clap2.gifclap2.gif

the big increase in arrivals are driven by the Chinese pax, most likely followed by the Russians for 2013.

Well your gonna have to see if this trend is sustainable to meet the 25.4 mio. arrivals with the negative fluctuation of many

currencies which may impact the arrivals.

Transit passengers are also counted as tourist arrivals. Better yet are the tourists with a stopover in Bangkok, and then go on to Phuket, Koh Samui etc. They are two arrivals.

TAT is busy breaking this figure out. They are crunching numbers and keeping those mysterious manual books on the tourist money spent breakout among temples, elephants, counterfeit goods, and sex. The big tourist breakout is on. Which category do you think will again earn the top spot for Thailand? Hats off to the girls, the real backbone of Thailand's economy. Impervious to currency fluctuations or global economic doldrums, Thai girls and elephants keep churning it out, and especially the girls.
