Does Anyone Know If The Us Embassy Checks Visa Status To Get A Notary?

Featured Replies

Need to get a form notarized for a job back home when I come back but I am already a couple days overstayed. Will the US Embassy report me to immigration or have a problem with me overstaying in Thailand?

Don't think they care, they'll just check the ID page of your passport to verify that it's you.

And, they won't be able to assist you if you do end up in the IDC for overstay. Best to get that cleared up ASAP.

They won't report you, but if something raises doubts that you may be wanted for a crime in the U.S., they may do a check to see if there's a warrant for your arrest that's serious enough for some U.S. law enforcement agency to pay to send someone to Thailand to escort you back to the U.S. If so, they may call the Thai authorities to report your overstay because that's a handy way to keep track of you until the U.S. law enforcement agency arrives to escort you back.

Pretty far-fetched, but it's been known to happen. A few unpaid parking tickets or non-payment of back child support in the U.S. isn't going to get anyone motivated to call Thai authorities. Also, I doubt they'll check on someone with a couple days overstay. In reality, they probably won't even look at your visa status.
