mania
I guess worse case is I get corn holed by my govt and pay the $50 for it. I have had the pleasure 4 or 5 times in the last 2 years But at the end of the day it is easy & quick both of which I like. Also the one from your consulate is good for a year The one from Imm is good for a month I think it was? So if for instance you need one to pick up a new car or bike make sure it is ready when you go to Imm to get the cert. Otherwise risk expiration But yes they really ream you for the pleasure of a 5 min task they do by providing the sworn statement. Because they require no proof etc. Just raise your hand & say yeah I live there...done $50 thanks
Nowisee
I have an non-immigrant retirement visa, I have an existing drivers license (2 actually), I present a lease indicating I am living here... what is the need for a certificate of residency? mania
I have an non-immigrant retirement visa, I have an existing drivers license (2 actually), I present a lease indicating I am living here... what is the need for a certificate of residency? Just one of those oddities of dealing here in Thailand They want proof your still living /residing where you say you are. It is silly but it is what it is as usual. I am just grateful we do not need one for our yearly visa extension renewal Edited February 28, 2014 by mania
Nowisee
Went to immigration today around 0930 and the small office in the back was open again for certificate of residency. Got a piece of paper stamped with todays date and next mondays date... told to come back in one week. See how that goes next week. I do appreciate them (him) taking care of this and at no charge. I'd buy him a beer if I saw him in town. I still think the need for such a thing is unnecessary, as long as you present a copy of lease and attest that you live there.
robblok
If anyone is interested Sumet is correct about Nonthaburi Immigration not issuing certificate of residency. This has been the case since a new manager took over there around a year ago and issued this instruction. His reason as told to me by one of the staff was that farang cause trouble in Thailand. This episode quickly prompted me to update my Yellow House Book with my new address so I don`t have to pay the exorbitant fees the UK embassy charge. I concur Nontaburi does not give it out and I have been thinking of getting my yellow book done too but here its a few hoops too. Its an idiot rule.
