Cheap smartphone device to use in Thailand for couple months?

Featured Replies

I'm planning to travel Thailand for couple months.

What smartphone type would be the best to use for couple months and sell it? Android or iPhone? Which model?

I'm planning to get a new smartphone next year that i'm planning to use it for only short term. Would it be better to bring unlocked phone from US or buy it in Thailand?

The primary purpose will be using Google translation for communication. So device that's more popular among Thais will be preferable.

Thanks in advance.

Unlocked iPhones work well. Get sim and data/call plan and pop it in when u get here. I use my 4s with no problems. As far as carrier's go. Depends on what you need an for how long. That a while nether thread on here somewhere. Enjoy your stay.

What is your definition of "Cheap"?

You can get a Google (LG) Nexus 4 (8 GB) for $299 from the Play Store.

http://www.google.com/nexus/4/

This phone is unlocked, would work in the U.S. on T-Mo/AT&T or any of their MVNOs like StraightTalk and Simple, and would work here on any/all GSM and 3G service providers.

You could probably sell this phone used for about the same price as you paid for it in the U.S.

You are going to need an internet connection (2G/3G/WiFi) to run apps. like Translate (Android).

Thanks for suggestion. Nexus 4 looks good to me.

IPhones are little too expensive. Even iPhone 4 is well over $300.

Why would you sell it immediately? Maybe you will try Samsung phones, quite affordable and easy to resell too. I would go with Samsung Galaxy of the Nexus model.
