Pair of ethnic Hmong nabbed in Chiang Rai with 300,000 meth pills
By Digital Media

CHIANG MAI, July 6 - Thai police apprehended two Hmong ethnic minorities for smuggling 300,000 methamphetamine pills from a northern province en route to the capital.

Provincial Police Region 5 commander Pol Lt Gen Suthep Dechraksa said the pair of Hmong, identified as Suchart Seaya, 23, and Saensam Saelee, 20, were arrested in Chiang Rai province, with meth pills hidden in dog food sacks in their pick-up truck destined for Bangkok.

The detainees confessed that they were hired by Pongsathorn Panachandra to deliver drugs to the capital and that this was their second smuggling run.

Mr Pongsathorn however escaped arrest.

Gen Suthep said the drugs were well covered up with materials which smothered the scent of meth pills to evade detection.

He said Thai authorities have conducted serious crackdown operations on the smuggling of chemical precursors for illegal drugs. The drug producers therefore sourced chemical precursor from other countries, such as India and Vietnam.

The commander said police will send samples of drugs to the office of the Narcotics Control Board so that they can verify the ingredients and their origins. Once identified, relevant authorities will lay out a plan to intercept the smuggling of these substances. (MCOT online news)
