Backslash on Thai Keyboard ?

My daughter has managed to forget her password for Windows 7, so I am in the process of resetting using the Installation disc. I need to input some command prompts to do this, pretty straight forward until I get to the point where I need to input a Backslash, seems the Thai Keyboard doe not have one ? Can anybody give me a clue as to where it is hidden ?

Have you managed to get it to work though ? Mine is shown there at home and at work, but neither computer seems to be able to show it on the screen.

I think depends on the keyboard, mine has a double height 'Enter' key (extends to QWERTY row), Have seen Thai keyboard with \ as right hand key above 'enter on that row, with only single height enter.

Can always use the Alt code. \ is 092

I struggled with getting that back slash

You need to have the Numbers Lock ON hold down the Alt key and then type 92 on the numbers keypad ... then release the Alt key.

You can always spend about 400 baht for a new wireless keyboard and mouse and this will have both languages.

Nope, the ALT 92 trick only works on the numeric pad

The problem our OP has is that during installation the Thai keyboard is not active and W7 thinks it has a US keyboard where the \ is to the left of the Z.

You could always use the PC's on screen keyboard. If W7 thinks you're using a US keyboard that what will be displayed on screen.

That is very strange ...

So you put the 'Num Lock' ON (may show a light somewhere at the top of the keypad)

You then held down the ALT key and inputted 92 on the numeric key pad ... not on the function keys.

\ works for me.

Easy.... In Word go to Symbols at the top of the screen marked "ᾨ" select any of the symbols not on your computer and click the one you want such as the back slash and it will immediately appear in your text.

Alternatively you can copy and paste.

I might add that I worked as a Technical Writer with a Team of Engineers working in Arabic, English, and Korean so we were toggling between languages all the time.

Secondly, Engineers often either forgot their passwords or left the company, so I found out that there are several ways to reset the password without having to reinstall Windows.

Thirdly, you can recover all the data you wipe off your hard disk accidently with various computer programs (Similar to what the FBI use). One Pinoy Engineer gave his computer to the Libyan IT specialists, whos answer to every problem was "Reformat" and they wiped 7 years of Company Records off of his computer which would have cost $Millions and 2 to 3 years to replace (No back up would you believe!). I recovered it all with a free software program.

For all your problems there is usually an answer on the internet.

but if it's the password for the system you have a bigger problem. When you sort it out, change the password to alphanumeric only. I've had to do that and now *only* use alphanumeric passwords. Saves a lot of hassle when in cafés or whatever.

Go buy a cheap usb US keyboard, no need to unplug the Thai KB, and you have it for life.

As for your daughters password, Google win 7 user password recovery.

Accessories/Accessibility/ On Screen Keyboard ( use the mouse). This is how i did it before i realised that is in indeed above the Enter Key. Most ( if not all) Thai keyboards default to a US layout when not in Thai mode. I also use the aforementioned for a £ sign also. Alternatively you can Launch The Character Map from system Tools and copy and paste it from there.

As already mentioned, mostly the default English is US.

By pressing the key above the tab key and below the Esc you can toggle through the lauguages available.

Try that and press the key to the left of the backspace key or above the enter key
