chris2004
Tried to buy some beer today but everywhere seems to be sold out. 7/11, Tesco even Macro. Only top end brands like Carlsberg/Heineken available. No Chang, Leo, Singha. Own up who's hoarding all the beer.

Gsxrnz
I'm staying home tonight. There'll be Falang rioting in the streets if the Bar Beers have run dry. Oh wait, no beer, no drunk Falang? It's a chicken and egg sort of situation. Nuh, I'll stay home.
craig
My Thai wife tells me that her aunt's country store has beer & that the storage room behind has cases of recently purchased (before the price hike) in reserve.
MB1
The tax increase has made people hoard. Expect 5 baht more / bottle now in 7/11. Remeber the floods last year, beer was at a premium price, supply and demand, if the Thai's can hoard it now and get a better price in the near future then they'll do it, 5 baht x 24 = 120 per box.. Popular Post Guderian
It's probably due to the government's beer pledging scheme, introduced after the huge success of the rice pledging scheme.
rickb
There has been an increase in the tax on beer, as well as on red and white liquor. Most middle-man suppliers are still uncertain as to how much they will be selling each product. Until the mom and pop minimarts are told what the new selling price will be, they don't want to sell their old product, bought prior to the tax increase, because they view that as losing money. When they sell older, cheaper beer at the new, higher prices, they will make much more profit per bottle. So they sit on that older product until they know the new price. It looks from where I am that Leo will sell for 50 baht per bottle, Chang at 48 baht per bottle, and Singha at 60 baht per bottle.

Foxglove
This tax hike is very confusing, on the 10th of this month I ordered new wine stock for my wife's shop from Siamwinery. They do the Mont Clair range, the local rep. said I can't have it until next month and he has no idea what the price will be. Surely large companies like this can work out the tax, or maybe the government are still unsure.

Chang_paarp
Last I heard, the government had announced the tax increase and the date it is to start, but it is yet to go through parliament. (I could be wrong here.) So the problem is no one knows if the tax increase is going to happen. This would explain the confusion in the supply chain as to the cost.
