Officials raid 'aphrodisiac', sex-toy vendors
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Items touted as aphrodisiacs, along with sex toys and possibly fake Viagra pills, were seized yesterday during two raids at Khlong Thom wholesale market and another area nearby.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which conducted the raid with the Department of Special Investiga-tion, said it was checking if the aphrodisiacs contained any illicit drugs.

Five vendors selling the items were arrested and charged with selling drugs without permission and with selling obscene objects.

DSI agents said the pills being sold as Viagra were of low quality and could lead to heart attacks or death for those with chronic ailments or allergies, while the FDA agents said the purported aphrodisiacs had no labels with dosage or usage information, which could be a legal offence.

Vendors of sex toys and other goods were heard complaining about the seizures and the parading of the five suspects in the middle of a closed intersection. The raids prompted the operators of other stalls offering sex toys to shut down before DSI agents could approach them.

Very strange in a country where you can find 3 "bar girls" per m2 to forbid sex toy ..... oh that's maybe the point ....

Correct, that's the point. The sex toy trade is small potatoes for Thais compared to the prostitution industry which is encouraged to flourish.

This is a joke! There are at least 5 of these same vendors along lower Sukhumvit and each seems to have its own local police men protecting them! How about a bit of consistency!

It's about competition not consistency

What I find offensive is that these dildos and stuff are on sale on the street - apparently in Klong Thom but also lower Sukumvit. I don't take my 11 year old daughter or visiting friends out for Lebanese food in soi 3/1 anymore because of this crap being sold everywhere. Or, if I do go, I approach and leave from Soi 3.

Why can't they just move this crap into shops? Answer: the usual reasons.

i just hate it when my 9-year old niece asks me "what's that for?"
