I'm off to Chiang Rai for a few days, taking the bus.

Ideally I'd like to drive to the bus station and leave my bike there until I arrive back, but I'm not sure how safe it'll be after dark. Am I right in thinking there's a secured area specifically for this purpose, where you can leave bikes for a small fee?

Thanks for any help with this.

yes there are many shophouses where you can leave your bike i think 10 baht per day

Great, that's good to know.

Yes I have seen those places, just wasn't sure if it was an overnight thing or not, but I suppose it must be otherwise people would just park up any old place.

Its actually 20 Baht a day, I use to leave my bike there when I did the Mae Sai visa run. Very secure and never a problem.... the place I used was on the right hand side at the intersection of the road into the area and the corner of the actual bus terminal. As said before, there are several places and probably all much the same.

They are open 24/7 so no matter what time you return someone will be about to retrieve your bike.... just dont lose your docket as its proof that you own the bike. Hate to think what would happen if someone 'found' your docket! But then I am very careful in that regard.

Good cheap option for storing a bike for a few days.

Makes sense.

So I'm guessing when you hand over the bike you can't activate the steering lock, incase they need to move it?

I thinks thats correct, sometimes when I have dropped the bike off they have driven it out the back and then returned the keys to me. They 'may' lock the steering in those instances but I cant guarantee that.

nasty experiences with one of them. they dropped my cbr250 and left a ding in my tank and a bent in my handlebar. i didnt handlebar lock it for the ease for moving if needed but they still drop it and deny everything

Be aware it's 10 baht each day not each 24 hrs. ie. if you leave your bike at 7pm one day and collect it at 6pm the next day you will be charged 20 baht.

(Just showing how the cost is calculated not criticising the cost)

I just pulled up at the lamppost next to the TukTuks and chained the bike to the lamppost. Still there when I got back - don't make it easy then thieves will pick easier targets - too busy to get away with cutting chains (I actually use 3 chains so they'd have to cut all three)
