Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in the live broadcast

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra announced in the live broadcast today that the government would enforce the national security law in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Bang Phli in Samut Prakan and Lad Lumkaew in Pathum Thani.

She said the enforcement is necessary following the invasion into government buildings, which disrupts government operations and threatens the national security.

She also insisted that in restoring control in the areas, the government assures no violence. International standards will be strictly followed, she said.

Yingluck also urges former Democrat MPs, who led protesters to government buildings, to solve conflicts through parliamentary procedure.

A neat move (unfortunately) by Poo and her playmates.... The anti-gov't protesters have split themselves into smaller groups and are all now wrong-footed under the ISA. Divide and conquer.

She is on record as saying that no action would be taken unless protesters were in areas under the ISA, so now she has cast her net wide and could get quite a catch.

Drat, drat and DOUBLE DRAT.

Will the Constitutional Court get to rule on this one as well?

Bank on topic, why was the ISA not enforced across the whole Greater Bangkok area while these protests were a mere twinkle in Suthep's eye? Doing so now sounds rather like slamming the stable door shut after the horse has bolted to me.

Peaceful protests are annoying, but seizing government buildings is breaking the law, when they do that, they're starting to turn rabid.

I think you mean 'attempt to disperse the protesters'.

Judging by the volume of work to be done and the fact that I doubt they are going to move along peacefully, I would say that it is downright dangerous at this point.

He might be able to pay the army to not have a coup, but i doubt he can pay the army to shoot the people. The army are establishment and democrat and no amount of money is ever really going to change that.

I am actually wondering how long it will be before she breaks under the stress of this. She does not seem like a streetfighter to me. Although Abhisit came through it pretty well in 2009 and 2010.

With the taking over of government building she has to do this as that is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and is CRIMINAL

Now its up to the Yellows if they comply which history shows they will not lets just hope the current government handles it better than the yellows did when the unleashed the military on unarmed reds the last time around.

This is not a "Ghandi" like protest, these are the same thugs who took over the airport a few years ago They have already taken over government buildings, assulted foreign journalists who tried to report on their actions, and are in the process of taking control of the Thai television network. Ms. Shinawatra has been very patient with these hooligans thus far, with the feeling that if you give a rabid dog enough rope they will eventually hang themself, and Mr. Suthep is currently wrapping that rope around his neck. These infantile yellow shirt radicals have been allowed the right to assemble and protest for 2 days now and they have finally crossed the line like we all knew they would, it is now time to end this situation before Thailand gets another black eye like the airport debacle

If they want the protesters to be dispersed, they'll be dispersed. The only question is how heavier hand they need in order to do it.

The Yellow shirts will probably want to have some of their people killed so that they can hold them up as martyrs, but from what I've read previous "red" governments have been significantly less violent than the last "yellow" government (Probably because the red governments get their power from a majority of voters, so public perception is important. The democrats on the other hand had the army at their back, so didn't need to worry about a military coup etc)
