9,000 foreigners holding work permits for Phuket

PHUKET: Figures from the Phuket Provincial Employment Office show that at the end of September this year, 9,141 foreigners held permits to work on the island. The number excludes labourers from neighbouring countries.

The largest number of work permits is held by British citizens, followed by Russians, with French in third place.

The hotel industry is the one demanding the largest number of foreign employees, followed followed by restaurants and bars, and travel companies.

Work permit holders typically have senior positions in companies, with well over half registered as managers, chair persons or chief executives.

Yeah, French are the 4th. largest? No wonder my garden snails have disappeared! biggrin.png

I am more surprised by the high number from the US and from Myanmar.

Considering the percentages in tourists the number of Russians with a WP seems very low, would presume many are still working illegally.

So the impression of the many Brits working in Thailand is not an illusion.

"Officer 1,274" - does anyone have any idea what exactly is the occupation of "officer?"

Is there a crackdown on the horizon?

By the way, I'm surprised Japan didn't make the list - come on, there are certainly more than 27 Japanese holding workpermits in Phuket?

Forgiven. I know why you made that mistake. You were hungry and you were looking for Kon Hollandaise, instead of Dutch. Easy mistake to make!!

Possibly, Tourist Police.
