Crime DSI Probes 805-Tonne Chemical Haul Tied to Drug Trade
Picture courtesy of SiamRath. The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has taken over a high-profile case involving 805 tonnes of chemicals found at a private warehouse in Mae Kasa, Mae Sot district, Tak province. Authorities suspect the chemicals may be linked to drug production. The seizure, valued at approximately 67 million baht, involved eight types of hazardous substances. The initial investigation by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) Region 6, together with DSI, military, police and local administrative officials, began in December 2024. The chemicals were believed to be destined for neighbouring countries across the border at the Phu Nam Ron area. According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Woranan Srilam, Director of the Consumer Protection Case Division and DSI spokesperson, the amount of chemicals far exceeds legal limits, which restrict possession to 50 tonnes. Additionally, the registered location of the chemicals did not match the actual warehouse. One suspect has been identified so far, with further investigations ongoing to determine other parties involved. DSI will conduct a special investigation to trace the supply chain, examine potential links to drug trafficking and pursue legal action against all those responsible. Mama noodles
Mama noodles are to a Thai, as a sausage roll or a meat pie is to a Brit. For Amurcans it's probably a hotdog. A gap-filler food, available everywhere and can be eaten on the run. -

Accident Elderly Disabled Man Killed After Being Hit by Car
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 64-year-old disabled man was fatally struck by a car while attempting to cross a road in Muang district, Chachoengsao province. Police Lieutenant Rangsarn Pongsuwan of Muang Chachoengsao Police Station reported that emergency services were called to the scene near the entrance of Soi Bang Khwan 2 on the Chachoengsao–Bang Nam Phreaw road at around 13:30 on 21 August. Forensic doctors from Phutthasothon Hospital and local rescue teams also attended. At the scene, a white Toyota Yaris was found with significant front-end damage and a shattered windshield, with strands of the victim’s hair caught in the glass. The driver, Mr. Porntep, 44, was present to provide a statement. Some distance from the vehicle, the body of Mr. Wing, a worker at a nearby ice factory, was discovered lying on the road. He sustained multiple injuries, including a broken neck and fractured right ankle, and abrasions across his body. Initial examinations were conducted at the scene before the body was taken to Phutthasothon Hospital for a detailed post-mortem. Mr. Porntep said he had been returning home after picking up his wife from hospital. “I overtook a car ahead and didn’t see the pedestrian crossing because the vehicle in front blocked my view. By the time I noticed him standing in the road, it was too late to brake,” he explained. The victim had been living at an ice factory, where he had worked for more than 20 years. The owner, Mr. Ratchanon, explained that Mr. Wing was disabled and normally avoided walking on the road due to his mobility issues. “He usually stayed at the shop to help with chores, so it’s unclear why he was out in the street today,” he said. Police are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning the driver further as part of an ongoing investigation. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-08-22
