webfact
PM dismisses coup plot with armyBy Digital ContentBANGKOK, Jan 8 - Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday dismissed a report that she has asked the army to carry out a coup d'etat to end the political crisis.Ms Yingluck said the reports were just rumours, adding that a coup cannot solve Thailand's political deadlock. She expressed hope that the commanders of armed forces will believe in solving the problem for the long term rather than opting to use the method which is not acceptable in the world community.Ms Yingluck said she believes, as seen, the commanders will follow HM King Bhumibol's speech which advised Thais to perform their duty and live together peacefully. The premier's remarks followed rumours that she asked the military to conduct a coup in order to reset the country's system within a one-year timeframe.Regarding the planned "Bangkok Shutdown" by the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), the caretaker premier said she has instructed all ministries to discuss with security agencies to prepare for the disruption on January 13.She said her government will remain patient and any security operations to oversee the demonstrations will be carried out without force of arms. She urged all parties to avoid confrontation, adding that a combined security personnel of police and the three armed forces will be deployed to protect state premises. She noted that seeking additional personnelcfom the army is being considered by the director of the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO).Deputy caretaker government spokesperson Sunisa Lertpakawat said that in today's cabinet meeting Ms Yingluck assigned caretaker deputy defence minister Gen Yutthasak Sasiprapa to coordinate with all agencies seeking security protection.Ms Sunisa said the caretaker premier also instructed related agencies to help the public as she worries that transportation will be affected during the mass demonstrations. She added that caretaker Labour Minister Chalerm Yubamrung and caretaker Justice Minister Chaikasem Nitisiri have been assigned to oversee law enforcement. And probably doesn't see the hypocrisy in that statement. Or the danger inherent in putting Chalerm in charge of the cops, many of whom are as unstable as the great man himself. Hopefully, he won't have had too many sherbets the night before and is on the correct dose of Diazepam that day.......
