I bought an i-mobile IQX3 (my first smartphone) and I've been playing around with it for the past two weeks. In that time I have found these apps to be worth having.

Xprivacy (free)

Airdroid (free)

Opera browser (free)

All in one toolbox (free)

Greenify (free)

DU Battery (paid for)

Lenovo Super Camera (snagged from a Facebook page) *

* Use with caution as it contains a virus. I use Xprivacy to stop it connecting to the net.

What are your favourite apps?

Nice list.

I already have Greenify, Ad Away and Tune In radio but I'll give Boeffla config V2 a go if it works with my phone. Snapspeed could be just the thing I'm looking for to edit photos. thumbsup.gif

I have many, here are the faves or most-often used. All are free although I find the small fee for cross-platform LastPass to be invaluable. And I upgraded Prey to accommodate more devices.

Snapseed

Google Earth

Google Sky

Magisto

Orienteer

Bubble

Metal Sniffer

LastPass

Prey

Astro File Manager

Currents

Backgammon

I also use Google Drive and Google Now

I'm running 4.4.2 on my S3 (i9300) The first thing I do when I buy a Samsung phone is to root it and put on an AOSP ROM :)

Boeffla config V2 only works if your are rooted and your ROM supports it. Another option would be Trickster Mod:

Nice list but I just can't trust Google translate. If you have internet access, use thai2english.com

I wish they had an app as I'd be happy to buy it. I think I need to get a 3G data package as I can't log in to my internet account from the phone and the laptop at the same time.

Google translate is for my phone when I'm out and about, not for my laptop when I'm at home.

Many already mentioned...and I'll add:

Google Keep for note taking and reminders

What's App for free SMS chatting

Associated Press for news

New York Times for news

Amazon for shopping and price comps

Kindle for books and mags

Amazon MP3 Player for music playback

Amazon Cloud Drive cloud folder backup

Camscanner to scan docs and convert to PDFs

Google Currents free magazines

AIS eService info on my phone plan and balance

IMDb everything about movies and tv

NPR News NPR news radio

Stitcher web based radio channels

Flashlight self explanatory

Anti Theft Alarm self explanatory

All standard google Android apps.

All these apps are free...but with the Times and Kindle, you do have to pay for most content.

I see a few people like greenify... Personally I gave up on the idea of tweaking the thing to get more battery life out of it simply because it's pointless (for me) - being a heavy user, what consumes most of my battery is the display - which there's naff all you can do about short of using the device less... :-)

Meanwhile though, for you battery tweaking fans, I do like wakelock detector...

I never watch TV or movies on my phone, 5" screen way too small to enjoy.

Convert Pad: Update currency exchange rate when on-line. Very handy for me as I work almost all over the world.

English: Not a native speaker so handy as well.

Moon + Reader: For reading books

Skype, off-course

Thai visa,off-course

Avast anti virus.

Flash light

Calculator

GPS test

Opera Mini

Some games but change often

Maybe I missed it, but can't believe someone didn't mention Tasker.

Of all the apps on my device, I use Tasker the most.

Also use Tasker with AutoRemote and Event Ghost to communicate with other Android devices and PCs.

Is there a good free one that can lock the phone securely in case it is stolen?

Avast in its free version can do it and I'm sure many other Internet security apps can. You'd need to be rooted though to give such powers to an app.

Prey is free, I tested this on the wife's iPhone years ago and it worked really well. I thibk there's a free version and the Pro version allows you to do a data wipe if I remember correctly.

Posted

Yeah, data wipe, remote lock, unlock, activate alarm even when the phone is on silent, send its GPS location, take and email a mug shot of whoever is trying to unlock the phone, lock the phone if SIM is changed, etc... most of these are standard features of most free security apps, some features are paid. Regardless of a free of paid version, the phone needs to be rooted or none (or very few) of the mentioned features would work. By default Android doesn't give this sort of power to any app so root access is required.
