For me these days--its just a knee high paddle in the ocean
January 21, 201412 yr Hi Bucko - wifey and I stayed there 2 nights on 12-13th this month. The hotel is OK - literally just across the road from the beach. Seaview rooms with balcony are fairly spacious and clean. The swimming pool (up on 2nd floor) is undergoing renovation but looks like it'll re-open soon. Don't bother buying wifi coupon - the reception staff (a friendly lot) told us it's too slow and not worth it, lol. Thai food in the restaurant is good but there are several other options within walking distance. It is located at far eastern end of the long Mae Rumphung beach and is a family-friendly hotel. Main occupants were Scandinavian families when we were there. It's a quiet area with no nearby bars as such and no nightlife that we saw, only small restaurants. The sea was calm as a mill pond and beach slopes gently so looks safe for swimming. It's sheltered from the wind by a wooded promontory at the far eastern end where a small fishing village is located (with a pack of guard dogs!). Beach has signs warning of jellyfish (including box jellyfish) with a bottle of vinegar available for emergency treatment - they say danger is only after storms and strong onshore winds. One or two Thai/farang beachside eateries with bars at far eastern end, but they were almost empty. The western end closer to Rayong city is popular with locals on weekends/holidays but the eastern end is far quieter and a good place to chill, preferably with a companion
