Suthep kicks off his ninth-day of Bangkok Shutdown protest march

BANGKOK: -- Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban kicked off his ninth day of street march in the Bangkok Shutdown protest campaign to persuade Bangkok people to come out to overthrow the Thaksin regime.

The route for today’s march includes Silom, Narathiwat Ratchanakarin, Chan, and Suan Plu and back to Lumphini.

Along the Silom road, Bangkok’s significant financial, business and commercial district, the protest leader was warmly welcomed, cheered by large number of office employees, business operators, residents, vendors waving national flags, and men blowing whistles.

They shouted “Kamnan Soo Soo” and asked to take photos with the protest leader, and also donated money to support his fighting with the regime.

From the start of the march at 9.00 a.m. from Silom intersectinon, the protest leader was still on Silom road at 10.30 a.m.

The protest march could move forward slowly as protest leader Suthep has to walk in Zig-Zag manner from one side of the road to another shaking hands with the people and receiving cash donations from them.

He also paused to have photographs with supporter mostly women.

Suthep vowed last night to win the fight against the regime before the February 2 election as now almost all government offices in the South are occupied by protesters, and farmers in the north, the major supporter base of the government, also are blocking more highways, roads and also stepping up their protest to oust the government.

Why not some thing positive about Yingluck. All they have is allegations against Suthep. Some even go so far as to lie about Yingluck and claim the majority wanted her when it was only 48% far from a majority.

The coalition of farmers, bankers, health workers, and people from all walks of life appears to have touched a common chord. As they tour the districts of banks, they are reminded of the Yingluck administration's plundering of the country's reservoir of funds. Noteworthy are the office workers who are leaving to join the people on the streets. People who experience the Yingluck administration's corruption first hand - be they farmers or bankers - are now joining hands in a common cry for decency and transparent governance.

He will be walking alone up and down Sukhumvit road even in 10 years, with his old tennis shoes, ranting about the government. If he's lucky, a soi dog will even pay attention to him.

Last time I looked Yingluck wasn't trying to attract attention to herself wandering around the streets of Bangkok, trying to forment a "revolution", making more and more outlandish comments every day.

That's why suthep attracts the comments he so richly deserves.

Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban Saturday vowed to break up the rally if protesters stage road blockage or intrude into government offices.

Suthep said there would be no problem if the protesters respect the laws.

"But if they violate the laws, such as blocking roads and intruding into government offices, we will have to disperse the protesters," Suthep said.

haha seems like you have caught something from Suthep. Giving a range of 100% difference! Well i guess there were about you know 5 or 10 million there, easy mistake to make.

From someone who lives in Bangkok and passes through the Asok intersection a couple of times a day, and anyone who also does that can confirm there are no more than 100 protesters there.

Not just Bangkok people, who tune into Bluesky.tv. I live in a Predominantly Red area and you see it on that channel almost everywhere now. I think, people want to see live and with their own eyes, what is happening. A lot of them, start to wonder now and that is the start of waking up. Some worry about their money and have taken it out of BAAC, Government Savings Bank and Krung Thai Bank, more worry about getting paid for their rice and they worry about the money lenders, knocking on the doors of many now, they have no money in the banks, only debts.

I only laugh, when people start talking numbers of protesters, because as you say, at night, when people finish work, the numbers swell and main stage, where Khun Suthep speaks after 6pm, is always packed, as far as the eye can see.

The parade of people walking with Khun Suthep, every day, also stretches, as far as the eye can see and further. That is not counting all the people, who support him, but have been too intimidated to come out, by all the grenade and bomb attacks and all the people waving from the sidelines and windows.

These posters, who keep talking about numbers, if they were right, Khun Suthep would have been gone, long ago, so why keep embarrassing yourselves, by posting such rubbish?

Thais (red, yellow and neutral) love soap operas. Many of them tune in to Blue Sky TV because it's the best soap opera currently on TV. The crap that comes out of Suthep's mouth beats everything and you see Thais everywhere laughing their bums off at some of his statement. The general opinion among everything that's not yellow is "Suthep baaa".

You're right of course.....the people and the cash keep on rolling in........but, I think his days may be numbered now unfortunately....unless there is some way of re-sparking life into the protest....failure for Suthep will come.....and it may be that security forces take him when least expected.
