Nothing in the report to say he has to do time in prison ?, oh I forgot

corruption is not illegal in Thailand as everyone is doing it,more then

norm than a crime.

Just hope they have actually confiscated his assets ,as he seems to

have had for ever to move them, offshore?

Bad day for the reds. This guy was supposed to be exonerated and compensated by the Thaksin amnesty bill for the inconvenience he suffered by those pesky law enforcement officers and nosy journalists. My heart bleeds for him!

One down umteen to go. Maybe the civil courts can get the farmerS their rice money.

Sent from my GT-S5310 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

If the courts can seize all the ill gotten gains from these ministers, they would have about a trillion baht 400 billion of it from the rice scheme.

They ought to investigate Yingluck, I bet she has at least half a trillion.

On the contrary, it is a good day for everyone when a crook gets caught. The implication in your post that this activity applies to one side only is, as with almost all your posts, ludicrous

hahaha thats a very crooked post.....................think what youve just said......................".its good that a crook gets caught for embezzling money in a society which is run by a crooked Government .................which runs only............to bring a crook back so that he can be crooked again!! Or is that - quite on the contrary dear boy? thought before posting maybe?

Another Thaksin man found guilty.

This is exactly why Bangkok should be shutdown.

To remove Thaksin.

No Thaksin, no corruption.

cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

So funny!

He was the transport minister under the last DEMOCRAT government he's from part of the Democrat coalition that last had power! He was found to have a house stashed with millions in cash. A thief broke in and stole the money. He reported 1 million missing to police, then said it was 5 million. The police caught the thief and recovered about 40 million. From the questions of the theives, the total amount was estimated to be nearer 100 million baht!

They figured a large part of his house was stashed floor to ceiling with cash, and the thieves said they couldn't take it all away because their truck couldn't carry any more!

He's one of yours!

cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Yep, part of a coalition.. NOT a Democrat.. Newin and BJT were originally in the Thaksin camp before having a falling out.. like Banharn Silpa Archer and his party.. they have no real political ideology so bounce from one government to the next.. reform is needed.

And who made him transport secretary? Oh yes, that was the Democrats!

As Suriya said , No Thaksin, no corruption.

I think you'll find that Thaksin was removed sometime ago, but the corruption didn't go away with him.

I'd like to see every redshirt leader and every Gov MP subjected to this type of scrutiny - I suspect what they uncover would be quite shocking, why is there not a dept set up to do random investigations

They only caught this POS by accident

Another crank bites the dust....another one....of course it is only red shirt guys who do this....or, only red shirt guys that get convicted.....what a crap up. Has any yellow shirt gone under the gun in the last year?.......Nope. Not one. Not one single yellow has been convicted of corruption. Of course not, there is no corruption among the Democrats and PDRC. They are saints who can walk on water (I saw it at a rally recently, and Saint Suthep flew while others walked).

I wonder why no Democrats or PDRC leaders are in court. Maybe they are pure as snow and made entirely of cream...

So wrong! So funny!

He was never Transport Minister and he was never part of the Democrat coalition.

Seriously, if you are so unfamiliar with how the system works here, you should refrain from trying to talk so authoritatively about it.

You just come across as an *** when you do.

Please, do not forget to vote for PTP on Sundayfacepalm.gif

Yes, do not forget to vote for PTP. They are serious in tackling irregularities, corruption, conflict of interest and abused of power. Charlerm really had Supodh nailed.

When is someone going to nail Chalerm and his irregularities, corruption, conflict of interest, and abuse of power?

Everyone wants to do away with corruption and they simultaneously want to benefit from it.

That is the truth both sides refuse to acknowledge, here on TV and nationwide. Get over yourselves, farang, this is Asia, not Wales. The only ferang who do well here are part of the problem, including writers, engineers, doctors and embassy rats.

Why pick on him?

.. err, because he has unusually large amounts of assets that he is unable to explain ... therefore, the conclusion is that he's crooked...!! If he isn't, then why did he not provide full details of where it all came from?

Oh but he was and is.

And you can see Abhisits budget for rural roads and the big gap between budget and spend.

Not everything should be subjected to biased point scoring in the context of the current political and ongoing conflict as such biased comments often don't give much of an insight into what actually occured.

A BRIEF objective overview of this case and related projects.

As everyone knows the Bhumjaithai (BJT) who used to be TRT & PPP pollies flipped once the PPP was banned and joined the Democrats to change government in late 2008. As with all coalition govts in Thailand - and everywhere in the world - minor coalition parties seek to exert influence on the majority party for their own gain. Nothing new there.

BJT demanded the two big budget ministries of Transport and Interior which they got, along with a few other minor Ministries. You mentioned the rural roads scheme and the dirt roads watering scheme, they were BJT programs, part of the coalition govt yes but wholly BJT programs.

Having their own Minister meant that BJT were able to successfully lobby Cabinet to approve the northern section of the MRT Purple Line (currently under construction) as a priority as a number of BJT pollies had property companies with projects along the Purple Line route. Two other lines were to be tendered prior to the Purple line so this was a significant change.

Having appointed their own BJT backed Permanent Secretary of the Transport Ministry as posted above and change some of the senior MRTA members, the BJT ensured that they had effective total control of the tendering process.

Once the robbery occured at Supodh's house and the discrepancy of stories was found to have factual basis the NCCC started their probe. Now we have the outcome of that process. One statement that was made by the NCCC in 2012 was that they would check the seriel numbers of the bank note to see if they could be traced to withdrawals made by the Purple Line contractors to see if cash payments had been made.

(It is accepted by all that every single govt funded project in this country involves some form of corruption from a new raod to a new building to a new metro line - the new airport being an infamous and excessive example). I could mention other metro projects but this is a brief overview. However, another scheme is worth mentioning.

Another BJT project was the NGV bus (new BMTA buses) purchasing scheme where BJT proposed to lease 4000 new buses for nearly 70 billion baht (over $2 billion US!!!). Read that again, lease new natural gas buses for nearly 70 billion baht!

The basis of the scheme was obvious to all politicians and commentators. The Democrats opposed this and it nearly caused the coalition govt to fall in 2010. The Dems were able to successfully have the schemed reviewed by various agencies and the Senate which stymied the BJT proposal. Read the extract article below....

(Note: The NGV scheme still exists under the current govt but as a smaller purchase of 26 billion baht for 3183 buses)

Basically, anyone wishing to point score should be cognisant of the fact that all parties seek to leak budgets for their own ends. The Dems can be blamed to a degree being the major partners but it is clear that they opposed the bus leasing scheme. A scheme proposed by BJT politicians many of whom were previously core TRT and PPP members. Newins has flipped previously as Banharn well remembers.....

These sort of cases highlight that everyone has their hands in the cookie jar of the state budget, it is just that some are more excessive than others. Be careful to throw stones in a glass house as they say. The foundations of Thai politicians is very shaky and who you oppose today could well be a coalition partner in who you support tomorrow! Or vice versa...

7 Feb 2011
The plan to lease 4,000 natural gas-fuelled buses has ground to a halt amid disputes between the ruling Democrat Party and its coalition partner, the Bhumjaithai Party. The proposal pushed hard by Bhumjaithai has been tabled for cabinet approval _ and rejected _ four times.

Transport Minister Sohpon Zarum of Bhumjaithai, who has been the main driving force behind the project, agreed to change details of the project and reduce the cost of the project from more than 100 billion baht to 63 billion baht. But his efforts met with opposition from the prime minister himself. There are signs that the project, which has been suspended, will be cancelled.

The cabinet has appointed Deputy Prime Minister Trairong Suwannakhiri, who oversees economic affairs, to conduct an additional review of the scheme. He has set up a subcommittee to help him to study the project. The subcommittee, headed by former permanent secretary for industry Chakramon Phasukavanich, is expected to put forward a recommendation at a meeting of the State Enterprise Policy Office on Wednesday that the role of the BMTA be limited to merely being an operator without any authority to supervise.

The recommendation also calls for the acquisition of 1,957 new buses and for 1,579 of these to be without air-conditioning. Effectively, this means the earlier plan to rent the 4,000 buses will be scrapped. Only 3,000 of the BMTA's 3,500-bus fleet are in operation because of problems of ageing and malfunctioning vehicles.

Bhumjaithai introduced the bus lease project because it wanted to win the hearts and minds of Bangkok residents, particularly those who migrate from the provinces and have to endure the seriously congested traffic in the capital. It wants to gain popularity and score points with Bangkok residents by giving them air-conditioned buses with lower fares. The government will not invest in the project. It will be left to a private company to shoulder the investment costs.

In fact, key figures in Bhumjaithai had known the fate of the project when it was first proposed to the cabinet. Bhumjaithai realised the Democrats would try to thwart the plan at every turn. The prime minister, in August last year, gave Bhumjaithai two options _ to suspend the project or to cancel it. A source at the Transport Ministry said the new plan to acquire 1,957 buses, proposed by the subcommittee led by Mr Chakramon, did not address the overall structure of the BMTA and its losses stemming from its commitment to social service.

Details of how the plan would help tackle the agency's debt were unclear, the source said. If the government resorts to old methods by acquiring new buses to replace old buses and allowing the agency a free hand to run its operations, the agency could expect to accumulate further losses and debts and be subject to greater corruption.
