Ridiculous question time! Is it safe to flush moist wipes/cleansing clothes down the toilets here? They have the labels "Flushable" and "Safe for sewer and septic systems".

The thing is, they're from Canada. My family sent them to me as a joke as I couldn't live without them back in Canada. There's nothing like finishing off a #2 with a fresh moist wipe (Not a fan of the bum gun). Then flushing it down the toilet.

But in Thailand, I haven't been able to find them. There are plenty of moist wipes, but none that say "Flushable".

I'm renting a condo so I don't know if I want to risk messing up the toilet.

This is a very important issue.

You say you are not a fan of the bum gun. Can you give a reason?

The problem with flushing even tissue in the Thai toilets is that the plumbing is not often kept to a specific code that would ensure your tissue will make it all the way. Clogged toilets are a nuisance, clogged pipes are a much bigger problem. Flushing imported wipes is something you might just have to get over.

As mooted above here drains are laid to rise and not to fall so that's why even taking a dump can cause a problem.

The paper shouldn't need to be an issue but it is.

My advice on toilet paper....go for quality, you don't want one that your finger will penetrate.

It's a rough subject to deal with. We Americans can't even use the word 'toilet' without cringing. We have to call it the washroom, rest room, bathroom, water closet, john, head.... anything but 'toilet!' And to discuss what we actually DO in there is even more distasteful (no puns intended) and NEVER done in social situations! Asians don't have that same cultural taboo about normal bodily functions... It's about the ONLY room in a Thai house that doesn't have a lock on the door! Many Americans will lock the toilet door even when they are alone in the house!

But these flushable wipes are actually becoming a major source of sewer pipe problems in American cities. I saw a short documentary about steps being implemented in some cities to locate and 'fine' people responsible for flushing them down the pipes, despite city ordinances against their use. I guess they don't break up as quickly as regular paper will, and get trapped at pipe junctions creating a clog that requires breaking open the streets, digging down to the lines, and opening the pipes to break up the blockage. And this is for cities with good quality sewer systems. I can only imaging what it does to the local Chiang Mai tubes... Most house I've seen don't even bother with a real pipe-to-pipe connection from the toilet bowl to the sewer line, just a cement 'ramp' pointing in the general direction. When I lived in Hillside 4, we wanted to replace the toilet, and I was quite surprised to see just a sloping wall under the bowl, with no pipe, no wax sealing ring, nothing at all... The bowl just sat over the hole in the floor that 'lead' to the sewer line...

I find your title outrageously offensive and rude.

Content leaves a lot to be desired also.

preferring wiping to washing says it all dry.png

and there I as worried about some potential coup thingy.......

Question has to be asked though........would'nt you have to shave your arse to get a good wipe?

Maybe that can be the next "ridiculous question" topic....."Where can I get my arse waxed/shaved in CM?"

Bit of a sticky subject for some huh?

I cannot understand why the West [esp. UK/US/Au/Nz] have not adopted the bum gun. It is the PERFECT means of hygienically cleaning ones ar5e.

Let's face it, we falangs have far more body hair. Toilet tissue or wipes do not remove residual poo, adequately. In many EU countries an expensive bidet is used for cleansing, yet a 99 Bt bum gun does the jobbie far better.

Tissue is used for drying only and should be placed in a bin, not flushed, as septic systems do not break down cellulose easily.

that's excrement advice..
