CAPO to reopen government offices as normal today, beginning with Justice Ministry

BANGKOK: -- The Center for Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) plans to reopen government offices as normal today (Feb 3, 2014), starting with the Ministry of Justice.

According to Mr. Tharit Pengdit, Director-General of Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and Centre of Maintaining Peace and Order (CAPO) committee member, said yesterday that the CAPO planned to reopen government offices tomorrow to allow officials to return to work as normal.

The Ministry of Justice, department of Consular Affair and government offices located on Chaeng Wattana Rd., except the DSI, would resume their services on Feb.3( today).

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and ten other offices located inside Kasetsart University’s compound, including the Ministries of Commerce, Natural Resources and Environment, Finance, as well as the Public Relations Department will be re-opened on February 4, 2014. All government offices are expected to reopen by next week, except in key protest sites, which might take a bit more time.

Tharit said he did not think the protesters would cause further violence even though the result of peace talks is still unclear. However, rapid deployment teams will be on standby for any emergency that might occur.

Mr. Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, an election committee on election administration, will participate in the CAPO meeting held tomorrow at 1pm.

So it wasn't a fake monk budha issara forcing ministry of justice official to stay with the protesters for 3 nights, but the dwindling numbers of protesters, so the offices can start processing visas, work permits and other papers?

.....................are they starting work on the hearings for Thaksin's 6 remaining convictions today - its only 6 years on. i know they have a back log but they need to adjust his two year sentence to fit his real cimes ready for when he comes back to Thailand after his amnesty is forced through? Would be nice to see new cases bought for the murders he commited in 2010 too!!

Then theres all the killings by red shirts from this protest and the rice pledge to try his sister for..........chop chop work to do!!!

"Why is everything always about Thaksin"................maybe you should ask him!

What, if anything, is the difference between CAPO and CMPO?

I have no idea there seem to be so many duplicated departments in Thailand that would be costing the taxpayer a furtune. Just look at TAT and TCT the tourism auth and tourism council.

They all seem like the same dog, just different fleas.

I read a few days ago that this may happen, of course Chalerm is ready to pounce to take the credit. But the spiel was actually that the Justice Minister begged to reopen because certain cases were about to have their statute of limitations expire and that would have freed certain individuals from justice.

There was also a hint that certain signatures would be required for any future indictments of government officials, and keeping the MOJ closed was delaying it. It was also causing a delay in the convictions of those members of the cabinet and senate who were in the process of being convicted for their recent wrongdoings in connection with the constitution. The criminal court had already issued a statement to say the process was on hold because of the MOJ blockage.

BTW.... CAPO is in charge of overseeing peace and order in general, and CMPO is directly responsible for overseeing the emergency decree and nothing else.

" All government offices are expected to reopen by next week, except in key protest sites, which might take a bit more time. "

This is the order that CAPO promised ? If it is, then things are indeed getting back to " normal ".

Lad Prao was open yesterday. A real madhouse, tho the staff did a great job. Got my o-a extension after an hour and a half but gave up on the re-entry. Will wait for Chaeng Wattana to reopen. Its a paradise compared to Lad Prao. If you can wait til thn best do the same.
