I had been using the same old el cheapo 2.1 PC speakers for dog years and not really thinking about it. I knew the sound wasn't much but it just didn't occur to me do anything about it.

So recently I spent much more than I've ever spent on PC speakers (2900 baht) and now I wish I had done so long ago. Huge difference!

I realize these aren't audiophile speakers but they are a major upgrade from the standard speakers you get with typical PC systems. To me, definitely worth the money.

Interestingly this set has no subwoofer. Saves space which is also a definite feature.

Anyway, what I bought are:

I think I could hear the new speakers all the way here in Bangkok...at first I thought it was just the local temple loud speakers, but then I realized the sound was coming from the Pattaya direction....it did sound good. wink.png

Why do you need pc speakers ? The TV forum doesn't talk to you does it ?

Ha. Ha. Music.

I had some 2.1 speakers with a subwoofer that were purchased about 10 years ago. A couple of months ago the subwoofer was making an annoying rattling noise. Then my computer motherboard was damaged from an electrical storm. My new mother board now supports 7.1 surround sound and since I do watch a lot of movies on a 32" LED TV (which sounds like crap), I thought I'd look into some new speakers.

So I did a little research. The Logitech Z506 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers were highly rated but I couldn't find them in Thailand! I decided to contact invadeIT to see if they could get them for me. They told me that they wouldn't be able to supply them because Logitech pulled the stock in Thailand about 3 years ago. My friend from the UK was due to come to Thailand on the 21st of January so I had him bring back a set which were 59GBP.

WOW! What a difference! I can even feel the air moving from the subwoofer!

Hi Jingthing,

we have a pair of logitech USB speakers but they are not loud enough to for sitting back and watching a movie so how do the Creative Gigaworks sound volume wise for movies . They have a power pack with very short cables according to the review which should help the volume and we definitely don't need Thai volume and heavy bass , just a reasonable volume for four people. Would you recommend them for that ?

I find my Creative speakers with sub-woofer more than adequate, great sound.

I was considering a 2.1 set like that at 1350 baht and I'm sure they would be good too. Are mine worth double the price? I don't know but the question won't make me lose any sleep!

The sbs a320 2.1 system here, generally not reviewed as well as what I bought, and I really do appreciate the SPACE saving of no subwoofer:

I personally watch all my downloaded TV shows/documentaries/live concerts etc. etc. on my computer. Large HD monitor, great sound system, HDD drives with hundreds and hundreds of HD docos. concerts, films etc, my lounge chair and drinks cabinet/bar all in my Mancave.

I think you made the best decision. Problem w/ the woofer is that it woofs too much and might well disturb the neighbors (only farang worry about such). This way you have much more control. It also sounds boomy and unnatural, generally speaking.

I agree, I also find my system too woofy, the sub woofer is located on the floor under my big office desk and the speakers under the monitors.

My "man cave" is a 16 m2 room next to the living room so space is not a problem, I even got a frigde as my wife fills the kitchen one up with food, leaving me no room for beersbiggrin.png but that is not a problem anymoresmile.png

I have Creative 2.1 speakers on my media center computer. Two tiny desktop stereo and a subwoofer. Remarkable sound quality coming out of them. The subwoofer has a separate volume control so I can set it to the amount of room vibration I want. I have a nice tv cabinet for my 55" Plasma and on one of the shelves I put the subwoofer. After a while I noticed that speaker was walking out so put a rubber pad underneath it. Helps to isolate it from the cabinet also.

My desktop I have straight stereo Harmon/Kardon speakers and they do a fine job with my FPS games. wink.png

My speakers are 15 years old already - they came with a Compaq desktop that has long since become toast - but the speakers are the best ever. Vary heavy self powered JBL's - outstanding soft or ear drum killer level they sound great. I would not sell them for gold. They have built in volume control and earphone jack too. They are as good as the ePI's I had with my pioneer system from the good old days before cassette's and classic rock was the new age genre.biggrin.png Lets do sunshine of your love at full volume, OK - it's on and the wife has that look on her face. laugh.png. I do have them by the TV and the PC can reach them so I use them for streaming as well as music.

Thanks for posting, I am going to get it soon. I couldn't find it last month at Tukcom.

I have good PolkAudio 5.1 speakers with my TV, but only basic 390B Creative A60 with my laptop...thinking T20 should be alot better so i went to Tukcom to look ....

Just this week I purchased a KINGONE K-5 Bluetooth speaker at Fortune Tower for B1500. The sound is quite impressive, not just to me but also to skeptical friends who were surprised when they heard it. Decent but not thumpy bass, excellent mid-range and good treble that can sound a touch shrill at very high volume levels. I have a 70 S/M studio and the sound fills the room if placed against a hard surface such as a wall without having volume at the highest level.

It is amazingly small for the volume of sound it puts out: 5" long X 3" wide X 2 1/4" tall.

Power is battery rechargable via USB, either off a computer or a standard 5v transformer. Can play connected to a power source or for about 3 to 4 hours on it's own.

There is also a micro-SD card slot for a source other than Bluetooth. If using Bluetooth with a mobile, it mutes when a call comes in and you can answer by voice. This can be turned off if not wanted.

For the B1500 price, an amazing unit comparable to units twice, even three times the price.

If interested, shop around. Some specialty shops were selling it for considerably more.

This is what works for me, small amp from eBay and a pair of Mordaunt Short speakers... Better than all the dedicated PC speakers I have had in the past.

Phil

More expensive, but the best configuration IMO. I have much the same, different amp, different bookshelf speakers. I also use a soundcard in the computer--surprising the improvement over your standard mainboard output. I'm not really an audiophile, nor by any means wealthy, but I do listen to so much music that for me it's worthwhile to optimize a bit.

An amp likely has switchable inputs, so you can also run your TV through it. Again, that's what I do--but computer and TV are in the same room.

I went to this shop today and it's closed, they were removing the last items and wont be back, damn it.

I went to banana IT and JIB but they can't help me getting the Creative Gigaworks T20's.

That's very surprising.

That shop has been around for several years and seemed quite established.

^ Maybe they are just moving to somewhere else just like Pattaya2u, lets hope so.

Maybe not, based on what the former salesgirl told me the other day. She's moved across the aisle to work at the Mobile shop. She said Hardware House is closing everywhere. She doesn't know why.

Yet the HH website is still up. Go figure.

Yes, I use a pair of Mordaunt Short speakers (MS-601) with an Harman Khardon HK 3300 connected to a CreativeLab Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium Fatality card. Great sound.

I just bought Microlab M-700U for 1600 baht at Banana IT.

It's crowded on my desk now with 2 monitors and the sub-woofer but the s.w. have radio and a big volume knob so don't need the remote control (only for setting bass, treble and store radio stations).

It sounds pretty good.
