Featured Replies

any help anyone, so i can stop arguing with the mrs, been back in uk now or seven years mrs thai, 2 kids, and been married 9 years. Both work full time and rent in the uk, never really wanted to buy hear in uk after spending a lot of time in Thailand before we came to uk , can't stand the weather or pace of life here. Wanted to buy some property in Thailand , something nice so when I'm older can retire there, but don't want to invest money there if i can't stay when old and get kicked out. just can't get my head round the whole how much in the bank thing for retire visa? do i have to show every year i have 800,000 baht in bank? if so can i just put this in a bank and forget about it, say i get state pension not much, £400, month when retired mrs about £300, we may be able to live on this in Thailand, but would i need to not touch the 800,000 in the bank and keep for visa extension only?? what does my pension account for ?

thanks for any info.

You can "retire" on the basis of age (over 50) or in your case secure an extension of stay based on marriage.

For retirement based on age you would need 800,00 in the bank, or an income of 65,000 a month Or a combination of money in the bank +income which totals 800,000.

For marriage you would need 400,000 in the bank or an income of 40,000/month

You would have to show the same each year.

Hope this helps !

If you have not lived here before try it for a least a couple of years before buying, it's not that great

He did say he has spent a lot of time here befor returning to the UK.....thats a clue in his OPthumbsup.gif

I have found it easier to go with the Non Immi "O" Visa route which although costs 125 quid a year means I can happily do an ex-cape run every 3 months (90 day)and since I still like a couple of weeks visit back to Blighty /EU every 6 months.(just to keep in touch)it works out well..

Also don't need the 400 k (beer money)sitting in a Thai bank.

Being 65 now (made it)recon I am too young to even think "retirement" still got a lot to do including microlight flying and aiming for my 100 countries visited.... about another 20 to go...sera sera....init

These are words of wisdom.

"Try before you buy". There is a big difference between living here permanently, and spending time here on and off.

When I apply for the "retire" visa at the Thai Embassy in Sweden. Then I need to have either 44500 sek in the bank for 3 months. Or an income of 14500 sek/month.

So it can't be the same everywhere.

1 sek = 5 baht

Unfortunately there is no "retire" visa in Sweden or anywhere else. You need to be more specific about what you are applying for.

The sums contained in the quote are Thai Baht for extensions of stay based on retirement or marriage. Exactly the same for everyone regardless of Nationality.

Those are the requirements to get a non-o visa.the 14,500 monthly is same as for OA and the 44.500 is a bit more than the monthly number.times 3. But the chances of them doing a non-o if you are Swedish is O since embassies will not do non O for citizens of the country where they are located.See: http://www.thaiembassy.se/en/visa/types-of-visa/49

For a OA visa the numbers come out closer to 800k or 65K per month and they have the baht amounts in parenthesizes: http://www.thaiembassy.se/en/visa/types-of-visa/63.

The OA is only issued for being 50 or over for retirement. This from OA qualification on webpage.

  1. Applicant must be aged 50 years and over (on the date of submitting the application).

Yes but with the other you also have to be over 50. And show proof that you are retired. Which mean 60-65 years for 99 % of the people in Sweden
