The bus driver had already lost it before the passenger spit in his face. He never once asked the passenger politely to leave the bus. He should have asked politely and when the passenger sat down again, called for another bus company employee to help him remove the passenger.

Instead he was shouting at the passenger from the get-go.

The driver was provoked, and spitting in someone's face is totally unacceptable.

But he overreacted; and his assault is equally unacceptable.

In a previous occupation I was spat in the face in the course of my work. It was a shock, but I called the police and a colleague restrained the offender until the police arrived.

The bus was at the depot, that is what this driver should have done.

He never once asked the passenger politely to leave the bus.

He did... He said; "hey man you've gotta get off the bus". The passenger woke up, rubbed his face, then went back to sleep!

  • 10 months later...
