Hello,

as i want to register a new car in my name i need a certificate of residence.

So today i went to the german embassy here in BKK and apply for a certificate of residence.

I do this before already two times, coz i need it for my thai driving license.

But today they refuse, as i have only a tourist visa. They provide the certificate of residence

only when i have a thai non immigrant visa. The only advice they give me i should try at the thai immigration

here in bangkok.

As Chaengwattana immigration is closed at the moment i went to the immigration at Major Hollywood Suksawat .

The officer asked me for a 90 day report, which i not have as i stay here on a toursit visa.

So they refuse the certificate of residence also. I talk with two officers, they both work normaly in cheangwattana immigration.

But both said the same. With tourist visa no certificate, which make me wonder a little, as i read here many people

have no problem to get one.

Then one officer wisper something. She said, she is sorry, but her boss control everything now, and she can make no exception.

I should go to an immigration outside bangkok, then it will be more easy......

It is possible to apply for a certificate of residence in pattaya or hua hin, when i life in bangkok?

Any other advise or idea how to get a certificate. Is it possible to get such a document from a laywer or notary here?

I will be grateful for any help.

You would need a address to apply from, it maybe possible to do. Just here as a tourist or planning to retire in a few years, if retirement is in the cards convert your tourist visa to a non-o at immigration.

That is the first I have ever read of an embassy not doing a proof of address without having a non immigrant visa.;

Bangkok immigration will not do a residence certificate unless you are making 90 day reports to them.

Immigration in Pattaya has been reported as doing them for tourist visas but you woudl need an address in Pattaya to get one.

yes, of course i have a address in bangkok. I bring also my rental agreement to the embassy.

It was not the first time i apply for the certificate at the german embassy.

Hi I asked this question in another string but it seems relevant here too: Does the certificate state your name and address in English? The reason I ask is I need to prove my Thai residency to open an account in the U.S. and my utility bills are in Thai so they have trouble with that. Also does it say "Certificate of Residence" in English?

I don't want to get one from my embassy (Canada) because the one I got from them a few years ago was really a worthless document (except for getting a Thai drivers licence) since it doesn't really confirm your residence, it just confirms that you came to the embassy and swore that your residence was in Thailand.

Thanks

So its getting tougher now, this certificate is important if you want a bank account , driving license etc . I guess the message is to stay away from tourist visas if you want to live more than a few months here.

Make it easy on yourself.

Talk to one of those shops offering help with securing various documents.

A myriad exist within a kilometer of my residence.
