BANGKOK, March 19 - A Royal Thai Air Force radar station in the southern region detected a passenger aircraft departing Malaysia but which U-turned to Penang which may have been the Malaysian jetliner before it went missing, according to Thai Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Prachin Chantong.

ACM Prachin said that Malaysian authorities have requested radar information from Thailand for investigation into mysterious disappearance of the Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777-200 flight MH370.

Flight 370 vanished March 8 with 239 people aboard a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

He said according to the information of Air Force radar system at Surat Thani that covering southern Thailand cities including Phuket, Hat Yai, Songkhla and Surat Thani has detected a passenger plane taking off from Kuala Lumpur and did a U-turn, diverting to Butterworth, Penang Island before heading into direction of the Strait of Malacca.

The information was in accordance with the announcement by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak that the Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777-200 aircraft was apparently deliberately diverted and flown for hours after vanishing from radar.

ACM Prachin said the Air Force would forward the information to Malaysian authorities to check whether it was a missing MH370. (MCOT online news)

BANGKOK: -- An Air Force radar station in Surat Thani apparently detected a passenger aircraft that departed Kuala Lumpur but changed its course and went past the Malaysian port of Butterworth, Thailand's Air Chief Marshall Prajin Juntong said yesterday.

The aircraft could then have headed for the Straits of Malacca, ACM Prajin said, adding that this information confirmed what Malaysian PM Najib Razak had told the press in relation to the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines' flight MH370.

However, he said, it was yet to be confirmed if the aircraft detected by the Surat Thani radar station was actually the missing flight.

Malaysia continues seeking help from governments across Asia in the search for the Boeing 777, which has been missing since March 9 with 239 people on board.

Najib said the plane was deliberately diverted from its flight path and new data showed communication between the missing plane and satellites almost seven hours after it turned back and crossed the Malay peninsula.

Prajin said he would hand the information to the Malaysian Air Force.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said he and his Malaysian counterpart would soon discuss cooperation in the search for the missing aircraft.

I just read this on the other world feeds and had a bit of a chuckle. Here it is, 10 days since the disappearance of MH370 and the Thai military just now release their radar traces. When asked why they just released them now, their response was that no one had asked them. Priceless.

EDIT: As you would expect, the western media is now ripping Thailand a new one for taking so long to release this data.

What this report doesn't point out is that the Thai Military knew this ten days ago. The report I read quotes Air Vice Marshal Montol Suchookorn as saying "but did not share the data earlier because officials "did not pay any attention to it" and were not specifically asked for it."

Just let so many boats and aircraft search in the wrong places for ten days.

FoxNews' Greta VanSusteren had a scathing, critical editorial about Thailand's negligent act in not reporting the radar sighting and referred to Thailand as acting like "jerks" while many nations were out in the Gulf and the Indian Ocean searching for the plane. Van Susteren also commented that Thailand stated that they are not officially releasing the data for ten more days until they further analyzed it.

So what's this all so when or are the Lego military up in missing pieces. Seems more as if the Thais know the plane went down in their air space, but not to hurt tourism (money flow) are coming up with their imbecile conclusions of the plane turned away & disappeared. A CNN reporter has just said the Thai answer as to why they didn't release the information is as baffling as holding onto the data for 10 days.

Sorry.. I know it's not a laughing matter, but....

If you think Thailand is the only country , agency , withholding info on this I doubt it .... There is a lot more to this story and I believe a lot more info being with held ... time will tell ...I feel for the passanges families ... no closure is a heavy burden for anyone ....

Malaysia knew from their radar that MH 370 had altered course and told no one, the flight never flew into Thai air space , it turned back towards K.L then banked and flew over Butterworth , an air-force base , as this is Malaysia air space over a airbase ,why the worry , Malaysia knew and never told anybody.

I hope before, for the family, of the people that have disappeared, but may be in 5-10 years time a half truth will come out, as usual.

They did not have to be "asked for it" - they have been involved in the search from practically day ONE - !!

Simply part of the ASEAN policy of non-interference. What happens in another member state area is neither officially observed nor commented on.

Good news for Thailand's "admirers"!!!.....another reason to keep praising the country. Give Thailand a break!!!!!
