BANGKOK: -- The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship is to stage a mass rally in South Pattaya on Saturday.

The rally was intended to unite red-shirt followers in the eastern region and remind them of their role and responsibility.

Red-shirt followers from several eastern and central provinces namely Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Trat, Chanthaburi, Samut Prakan, Rayong, Chon Buri, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaew, Nakhon Nayok, Petchaburi, Ratchaburi and Chachoengsao were told to meet at their respective muster points before they are to converge at Khao Talo in southern Pattaya where they are to march in two processions for a three-kilometre distance to the rallying site.

Red-shirt leaders Jatuporn Promphan, Natthawut Saikua, Veerakarn Musikapong and Weng Tochirakarn will address the crowd until midnight.

Very intelligent to hold a terrorist rally in one of Thailand's most popular tourist resorts.

Well done.

Stupid people. If it kicks off and the shots start echoing around, I am sure it will draw some great international media attention.

I suggest curious tourists stay away.

lol - "The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship" that wants to overturn criminal convictions so that their leader can return and set himself up.......as a Dictator.

So, one "democratic" side wants their dear leader back so they can have N Korea style "elections" where you can only vote for dear leader and you have to vote or be shot and dear leader is guaranteed to win 100% of the vote every time.

And the other "democratic" side wants what, an un-elected, unaccountable body to select the leader they choose and that the "people" have no say in the matter ?

And neither side sees any irony in calling themselves "democratic".

No wonder there are so many bars in this country. Maybe if you kill off, or at least stupefy enough brain cells, it will all make sense.

At least now I know to not bother trying to ride my moto tonight ! The regular Friday night traffic jam ought to be "amazing" tonight !

Please stay away from Pattaya, this is not a UDD city!

I must correct you. Pattaya and most of Cholburi is very much Red-Shirt territory at its top levels.

I hope it does. The only way things appear they will change is when the money goes.

That's when the people will get off their lazy butts and rid themselves of the corrupt shins.

You may want to a little bit of research on current police chief.

Another thing worthy of a quick google search is the APEC meeting in Pattaya where they had to airlift a number of heads of state out of the meeting venue. Another red victory.

It will only be grid locked around khao talo and sukhumvit rd on that huge empty block where they did the last one a few years back. Also regardless of what colour they wear you can't get a Thai to walk 100m let alone 3kms with out catching a baht bus or motorcycle taxi.

Kao Talo? Not much there besides some dodgy car rental shops and small bars?

There is a huge vacant field...just East of Sukumvit...possible rally point...

The junction of Kao Thalo and Sukhumvit is their normal gathering /ranting venue, usually pretty much self contained, even the mess is usually tidied up quite quickly next day.

UDD protesters gather in Pattaya

Chonburi, 22 March 2014 (NNT) – The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) is staging a rally in Pattaya in a bid to mobilize supporters from Thailand’s eastern provinces.

UDD protesters are gathering in a gesture of support for the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, and to protect the country’s democracy. The rally also aims at uniting government supporters from other provinces in the eastern and central regions.

The mass rally saw thousands of people coming to Pattaya from Chonburi, Samut Prakan, Rayong, Sa Kaew, Nakhon Nayok, Petchaburi, Trat, Pathum Thani, and Prachin Buri.

Last week, UDD protesters gathered in Ayutthaya Province where Mr. Jatuporn Promphan was appointed the new chairman of the UDD. The position was handed on to him by Miss Thida Thavornseth.

Jatuporn Promphan was one of the UDD core leaders of the massive 2010 political protests. He later surrendered to police to prevent bloodshed following the military crackdown in 2010.

Absolute Drivel. The Red-shirt's Rallying ground at Kaotalo has been the default Red-shirt Rallying ground for several years. The redshirts are welcome there. There has been many rallying events yet never been any serious problems associated with these Kaotalo RS Rallying events, of which there have been many. Many of the Kaotalo residents go the music festival after Midnight. On Sunday mornings after a red-shirt rally there is little of no evidence that they were here. Not even the platform remains. If rallies of the type Suthep forces upon Bangkok were to rally at kaotalo I imagine the the locals would have their permit cancelled.

I agree with your writing

"The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship"

in quote signs, because we all know this name says the opposite of what is meant. It is an abuse of the word democracy.

May be "The United Front for Dictatorship against Democracy " would be correct.

And the other "democratic" side wants what, an un-elected, unaccountable body to select the leader they choose and that the "people" have no say in the matter ?

They say they want elections in 1 or 1 1/2 year.

I can foresee we will be reading the news tomorrow and debating on here about deaths and riots at this demo.

Pattaya does not welcome red shirts. There are plenty if anti red nutter there more than willing to face off against these child killers and separatist insurgents.

The site is just opposite theaparsit road , the intersection with shukumvit . Can not miss it, enough red flags to make any bull commit suicide

Been close in Jomtien that day, saw the military moving in, in fact I know one of the reds and after their victory he got completely pissed telling something about being rich in 3 month because Mr. T. promised so. He and his family are still poor...

Besides those little stories a lot of Isaan people work in Pattaya as all know. Still it's not a red city and never will be.

Just been on sukhomvit and it's rammed full of cars, especially area around Tesco Lotus , long tailbacks both sides

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Right now on the highway towards Pattaya, a 7 km long stand still queue of cars, with my estimate at least 500 Bangkok taxis .

Looks like the rice farmers are now all taxi drivers. Many red flags on the cars

total grid lock on Sukhumvit and every major cross section. Roads along the rail road is blocked at any major cross section.

Highway into Pattaya is completely blocked all the way to where the new highway joins.

Second road is complete grid lock. Am supposed to go get the wife from the barber shop in Big C Pattaya Klang from the dark side but I guess she will be taking a motorcycle taxi this time around
