My phone was stolen in Lao a few months back. It's synched to my dropbox, so, I'm getting pics of who ever bought it.

They've taken a lot of pics, including, a facetime pic with phone number and email, and the phone number is Thai.

A pic of a bank receipt, with bank account number, the bank is KTBA to KBNK.

I've no idea in Thailand where this is... do you think the cops can get it back?

Yes.

I can't remember if ATM receipts have names or not but if not then the police can always ask the bank to corroborate the other information on the bank receipt with a name.

I may not be able to remember whether full names are printed on receipts for transactions conducted via ATM but I do know that there's far more information than just the names of banks on them.

So you can obtain their email adress from your shared folder information. And then you can email them and tell them that you want you phone back otherwise the police are on the way...or better still why not try a nigerian scam email on them. Maybe the amount you scam with far exceed the value of your phone...

Reads as a warning not to be tempted buying second-hand phones at bargain prices. If that is not the case, then yes, the thieving monkeys deserve a good whipping.

Are the images tagged with co-ordinates?

Right click image and check details.

If they are then go and get it back yourself, when they upload the next image.

Happened to a friend of mine. The phone was stolen and sold to a shop. My friend traced the new owner, went to the police. They got the phone back, the new owner got a refund from the shop.

Smart phones are not worth stealing. You can actually register your phone online with many security apps. Some even take a pic o's the person trying to unlock it and send to the website for viewing.

The police can easily trace your phone with the help of the phone companies.

I had my own smartphone stolen and all AIS wanted to track it was a written police request.

In my own case the police refused to supply the letter because the thief was dealing drugs for the investigating officer!

Tough one. If you confront them they will just toss the phone in the closest river. Maybe some type of you have just won XXX amount of $$ deal and have them meet you somewhere.

You also have to consider that the person who has the phone now maybe didn't steal it but bought it from a stall ect so the current owner could be just another victim.Best to not make any contact with them as they may just dispose of it,contact the police let them do there job.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not fully up to speed on smartphone security, but I believe there are some apps (Cerberus anti theft for one) that have the ability to integrate into the system (ROM) so a factory reset wouldn't help the thief.

Again, as far as I'm aware, this is an android app so not sure for IOS phones.
