free antivirus

Featured Replies

I have been using AVAST free antivirus but am now getting messages from them that I have been using it free for one year and I should upgrade. This means I should pay.My protection will expire in 14 days time. How can I renew without paying? If not, what alternatives are there for free antivirus?

I agree with MJCM, you can register year after year for the free Avast AV. My wife has had hers for about three years and all it takes is to put in your email address for the code.

Not only is Avast a decent anti virus program but you never receive any spam from the company either.

Avast just told me to install a program update and then proceeded to install Chrome as my default browser without asking. (gone now), Chrome belongs to Google and I try to avoid them as much as possible because of their tracking habits. Good AV though. I used AVG before and found it overly intrusive.

^ Yeah, fortunately they only bundle Chrome and not some Toolbar like Ask which can be a pain to remove.

But strange that you didn't see the option when installing to "not include" Chrome, but those options are easily overlooked

I pressed another button 'do you want to increase your internet security ?' meaning do you want to install Chrome? I installed the Ask toolbar a couple of times using Revolving installer.

Try panda cloud antivirus :)

But do remember to remove the pop up in their setting!

AVAST is really great...saved my lap top life many times already..and for free.

I have MSE, BUT, Malwarebytes Pro and a daily scan with SuperAntiSpyware (free). Does the job.

As nobody seems to know I post this recommendation when I see requests for anti virus. Bitdefender has a free version that is top rated and I have been using for last year and very happy with it.

I've tried them all and finally swear on Kaspersky Internet security 2014, good for 377 days. A present from a friend.

Kaspersky is supposed to be very good, but sigh, i stumbled across some bad news about them as well.

Not sure if i can say this but with some 'pay' programs, you can find the key on a google search.

However i do not download keys or keygens, not sure how safe they are.

I use comodo for firewall but not the antivirus and avast for my antivirus. I also run spybot search and destroy weekly and malwarebytes and malwarebytes rootkit detector monthly. Firefox with addblock plus and ghostery for my browser.

^Yep it's for the Free Version to extend for one more year only. Sorry wai.gif

One has to 'start' somewhere.

Please enlighten us with your expert or advanced wisdom?

Thanks.

I've been using AVG for 7 years and always been happy with them .
