I was thinking of checking out the craziness of Khao San for Songkran and was wondering what date it started there and how long it was on for as I know certain places only celebrate it for one day.

Could do with a few more places like that. I will be in BKK prompt on the 16th.

So you're gonna miss is then?

Not many people seem to like Songkran from what I've heard. It's a waterfight. What's not to like? :)

A couple of hundred people will die. And a few thousend get badly injured.

Do you like to get a bucket of water in your face when driving a bike?

And it's also boring if you are older than 15

I don't ride a bike. Taxi all the way.

But what water? How 'bout the powder and ice? Injuries & infections?

Might help to read the 2014 Pattaya Songkran FAQ.

F1979 never ever does basic research. He gets everyone else to do his research. He has started many threads asking the most basic information, completely and abundantly available on the web. He uses the lame excuse he only has an iPhone. I won't respond to any of his threads anymore.

KaiboiBepop assumes too much. KB thinks that Farang only does basic research when in fact people are looking for first hand accounts which aren't available on websites or Google. A lot of the information I have found on here isn't available on the web KB isn't obliged to post on F1970 posts but still does which is both strange, silly and troll-like. F1979 doesn't care if KB never posts anymore ridiculous posts on his posts again. Lah gone

It can be fun for a day or two - if you are not a boring old fart - but tedious after that. I have never been able to figure out why it goes on so long. However, I'm a boring old fart now, so don't look forward to it anymore.

Songkran is great, I'm dissapointed to be missing it this year, as Im working away.

Somebody already mentioned soi 4, and I back this up (even if its not a usual hangout for u) the bars keep the water stocked up and the beers flowing.

Battling with the bar opposite and the parade of trucks coming down the street is awesome!

I've heard khaosan bars dont supply water, and people try sell u it, and that its absolutely rammed with people.

Silom is to be avoided, too many people, no water, just thousands of Thais wanting to jab u in the eye with powder :)

Checking the weather forecast, you're likely to get wet Sunday through Tuesday regardless of whether someone hits you with water, or not. Good that.biggrin.png

You could just leave Thailand and move back to Scandinavia...for example.

What is that powder they throw and place all over cars?

Marcusd. Via tapatalk

Talc powder mixed with water. Don't know why they do that, they smear it on your face and you end up like a wax work model

I love Song Kran this will be my fourth in Thailand and first one in Kanchanaburi. Every other year was on Tai Pai gate in Chiang Mai loads of fun. I always feel sad on that last day. It seems the people who do not like it are part of that "older" crowd.

They throw it in your face and eyes if possible and smear you motorbike helmet and windshield so that you'll hopefully have an accident for their entertainment. Mentholated feels esp good. Try it now at home.

"Senior Member" indeed.

OP: Kao san and silom will be the big places, both will also be absolutely rammed. Still good fun... but its best if you find a bar to camp out at, so you're not walking around all day. The bars will usually give you access to their water taps, as long as you keep buying the beers.

Warning: Don't go to Silom Soi 4... last year it was loads of shirtless guys all dancing around each other.

Siam Square is a good alternative. Fun/lighter atmosphere. No bars or alcohol, and no face smearing, and not many foreigners. It's mostly students. It has a lot of shows/events as well.

Centralworld chitlom has a big bubble foam party in the daytime, in the big area just outside the mall.

The clubs at RCA will also have some water/foam themed parties at night. Do a google image search for 'RCA songkran' and you will see why that's appealing.

Yes settling in bar seems like a good idea! Think I'll avoid Soi 4 sounds very sexpat. Just Googled "RCA Songkran" and can definitely see the appeal! Note the irony in my comment haha :)
