They will repair it,they repair anything. My car ( market worth 180,000 Baht) was smashed up,estimated repair cost over 200,000 Baht,i told the insurance of the man who caused the accident that i would prefer it if they gave me 180,000 Baht,it would save them money as well. No we can't do that we have to repair it (220,000 Baht final bill) It looked like new when they had finished but i still cannot understand the logic to this day.

For 70 million baht, was it maintained? If the mechanic was testing brakes, do you also warrant that he was well advised to leave the engine running, when not in the cock-pit? Except this time. I know reading and understanding the report is not easy for some but the reason the mechanic was inspecting this train before the incident was because of brake failure.

What was it you said about my reading ability? He left the engine running whilst inspecting the brakes. Are you really as acute as you make out to be?

Can't imagine what the problem is that they would need to conduct a probe, just another routine train derailment, one of 20 in the last year.

This never happened with Thomas the Tank Engine.

As a retired engineer he is quite correct with regard to the "isolator" or cut-out switch to the generator. Certain safety rules were obviously broken in this instance.. There is more to this story than is being reported here, and naturally the reporters are not familiar with railroad terminology either. The mechanic involved should have carried out all procedures to guarantee that the unit could not move.

It was not a train that derailed but an engine or locomotive. A train is what is behind the loco.

You see how all things even themselves out in the end? If the track wasn't so crap the engine may not have derailed on the bend and could have gone on to cause far worse damage, and potentially death. Chalk one up for the negligence of the SRT!

What makes you think the track was sub-standard? Every section of track has a nominal speed limit, and if a train exceeds that by a significant margin then there is a risk of derailment. No-one suggested there were defects in the track at Santiago de Compostela - if you are not an SRT track patrolman, why would you believe that there were track defects in this case?
