BANGKOK, April 12 – The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has asserted fair treatment towards caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra who has been charged with dereliction of duty in connection with the rice pledging scheme.

NACC member Vicha Mahakhun said the NACC has left the door fully open for Ms Yingluck to clarify the charges, reassuring that NACC members have performed their duties without bias.

He said the prime minister was allowed to assign a lawyer to defend the case – a practice which has never been permitted in the past.

Mr Vicha, however, warned Ms Yingluck’s lawyer not to over-express his opinion, or else he could be barred from appearing before the NACC in the future.

He said Ms Yingluck’s request for more witnesses for the case will be up to the NACC members’ discretion, and he is only one of the members.

He assured that the investigation will be transparent and said political parties should be careful in giving negative opinions against independent agencies.

He said he believed the NACC’s ruling will not plunge the country into turmoil.

NACC secretary general Sansern Poljiak said after caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong, the final witness in the case, have testified, the NACC will need a week before making its decision on the prime minister’s fate. (MCOT online news)

So when the axe falls and YLs head is on the platter she cant claim injustice because the NACC has broken their own rules and allowed YL to have a lawyer speak for her since she would not know how to speak and defend herself. I believe even her lawyer can not deny her guilt and instead will be there telling the NACC that her deriliction will make a civil war and will cause chaos in the country. This will lay a terrible pressure and guilt trip on the NACC which may sway theit decision

A not guilty verdict would most likely, have a more detrimental effect on Thailand than any other possible verdict that could be rendered

The ptp is considering only themselves in their threats/intimadition, instead of the people of Thailand and the worlds view of the present government. Of course this self seving attitude has been a driving force behind ptp and those political parties that committed the illigal acts that led to this name. .

"He said he believed the NACC’s ruling will not plunge the country into turmoil"

Well if she is found negligent, and is removed, PTP can just replace her with some good kind hearted impartial person like Chalerm. And then they can continue. No need for civil war now is there?

Why does the NACC have to justify it's treatment of people, the law is the law , to be applied without fear nor favour , the NACC should not have to defend itself , the C.T.PM Yingluck should in theory receive the same treatment as everybody else or one would hope , the NACC should ignore any attempt's to undermine it's authority and should refrain from public comment.coffee1.gif width=32 alt=coffee1.gif>

Pheu Thai accuses NACC being biased for reducing additional witness to 1

BANGKOK, 12 April 2014, (NNT) -The Pheu Thai Party has accused the National Anti Corruption Commission (NACC) of being biased for allowing only one additional witness to testify in the ongoing investigation into the alleged fraud case against the Prime Minister in the government's rice pledging program.

According to Party spokesperson Prompong Nopparit, the NACC’s move mirrors its unreasonable haste to conclude the case, demanding that the independent agency be impartial.

Earlier, the premier’s team of lawyers had requested that the agency allow four additional witnesses to testify on the case, including Pol Capt Chalerm Yubamrung, Pol Gen Worapong Chewpreecha, Pol Maj Gen Thawat Boonfueng and Mr Pichai Chunhavachira; however, the anti-graft agency decided that only Pol Maj Gen Thawat had been linked to the rice scheme, and scheduled his testimony for April 17 at 1.30 pm.

Prompong reiterated that the Premier's legal team had no intention of stalling the investigation, urging the commissioners to review their decision. He said Labor Minister Chalerm, in particular, had overseen the corruption inspection in the program.

What does over express his opinion mean?

She is the first person to have a lawyer defend someone in their arena however he better not defend to the best of his ability otherwise they will throw him out.

This is why they are called kangaroo courts.

You guys are right she's probably gone but the justice system is a joke

Not to be overly picky but the last "C" in NACC does not stand for court.

"Kangaroo Commission" would be a better term, just for the sake of accuracy.thumbsup.gif

Once PM Yingluck is gone, and all those evil Shinawatras, Thailand will return to the clean, moral, incorruptible, honest, kind and generous Thailand that it never was.

Never give up on your goals, your first sentence was spot on.

Then Thailand has yet another chance to try to get strict laws to stop corruption, with Thaksin around it does NOT have much of a chance----when collecting honey, the last thing you want is someone behind your back prodding the hive.

I am getting an uneasy feeling about the upcoming NACC's verdict. I believe you hit the nail on the head when you mention how YL and lawyer may try threatened civil war if they rule against her. You never know what will happen as TIT.

What else is he going to say? "we are going to treat her fair and square, and we will find her guilty"? Of course not - no admissions of bias but guilty she will be. And she probably is, but that is not why they are finding her guilty. They will find her guilty because that is the strategy the power elite of Bangkok have decided on, in this chess game where the next move is a judicial coup. But to be followed by what? That will be Thaksin's move. The game will continue.

No Parrot - it is not a court!

She has been afforded more "fairness" than others, despite her arrogance and open attempts to discredit them. She couldn't be bothered to turn up the first time and collect copies of the information. She's not competent enough to defend herself. Yet, still some posters think she is really running the country and a capable PM. Mind boggling.

He is warning the lawyer not to abuse the favor of letting her have legal counsel, as she clearly is inadequate, or do the usual Shin defense trick of threaten everybody what will happen if any decision dare go against their wishes.

The biggest joke is the pretense that the Shin gang are a government of the people who rule in accordance with the law.
