Phuket maintains zero road fatalities in Seven Days of Danger

PHUKET: As of 9am today, no deaths had been reported in Phuket during the Songkran holiday Seven Days of Danger safety campaign.

Two motorcycle accidents were reported yesterday, but neither involved serious injuries.

At 6:21pm, Ampan Jansanoi, 35, lost control of her motorbike while riding in Phuket Town. Three hours later, at 9:25pm, Pongsakorn Sangkasee, 21, was involved in an accident with a pickup truck in Pa Khlok.

Both were taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital.

In 2012, there were three road deaths reported during the Seven Days of Danger and 44 reported accidents.

Last year, 26 accidents were reported during the period and the official death toll was zero. One man injured in an accident died later, however .

So no fatalities in the first 60 minutes of the 7 day road carnage.If that isn't an achievement worth the Guinness world record book, than I don't know it anymore.

The official record was zero, however, one man died.

That's one way to keep the stats down.

This is a country where you have to die at the scene of the accident otherwise you are not worthy of being a road death statistic.

Or one man they couldn't cover up that he died.

So this year they go for a complete media black out I assume.

So far they have zero. Wel atleast that counts for the ones that ARE reported. The one that ARE NOT reported, well there maybe many.

Zero road deaths means exactly that. Nobody died on the road. The ambulance ride probably killed them all.

I am offering generous odds that this will change. Anyone wanna take them?

if it works so well, why not implement it all year... ah yes, than the policemen would have to work and not being busy collection from all various businesses they like to stuff their nose & fill their wallets with

Just witnessed an accident where two motorcycles, going to the same direction, collided and slided on the road with sparks flying around.

The other party, wasted as one can possibly be, got nasty scratch from the asphalt so that his chin was all red covered with blood. However no real injuries were visible.

It only took few minutes for the rescue team to get to the site. Pretty impressive. They took the guy to the hospital to be patched.

Another thing noted. At Sapan Hin, there was plenty of motorbike rescue crews, which were able to a accident site much faster compared to the rescue cars. I talked with the crew and they said that they have had these motorbike/scooter rescue vehicles for the past 4 years. Their main purpose is to get to the site and help to get rescue car when it comes to the site.

Hopefully the big hospitals will at some point use the same tactics to get doctors or nurses to the accident sites faster. A poor mans equivalent to the medical helicopters.
