Redshirts hunt Somchai

LAMPANG: -- About 50 red shirt supporters of the caretaker government stormed into the Lampang airport passenger terminal in search of election commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn who earlier described them rude, low and wild.

The redshirts were angry at what they called an insult of the redshirts and vowed to hunt him down if he travelled to the North for election meeting.

Somchai later posted on his Facebook apologising the red shirts for his remarks. He said he did not mean all red shirts but only a few of them.

Earlier Friday their colleagues in Lamphun province also foiled a meeting of about 90 students of a political programme to attend a briefing at the Lamphun provincial town hall. The students were led on the tour by Election Commission chairman Supachai Somcharoen.

But Somchai did not show up in
Lamphun, thus enraging the red shirt protesters gathering at the hall in bid to retaliate his insult.

They instead booed at the EC chairman and also threw rotten fishes, eggs and even human excreta at the van he boarded to leave the provincial town hall.

On Saturday the red shirt people in Lampang rushed to the
Lampang airport after learning that Mr Somchai was to board a flight of Bangkok Airways back to Bangkok.

They went asking airport authorities and Bangkok Airways ground staff whether Mr Somchai or a delegation of the Election Commission was among the list of passengers on the flight to Bangkok. Authorities however refused to give them details of passenger list.

Shortly after all passengers boarded the Bangkok Airways flight, the angry red shirts stormed into the passenger terminal near the VIP lounge demanding to know if Mr Somchai was among the passengers.

A brief disorder happened as airport security officials tried to prevent the angy red shirts from intruding further into the departure area.

The red shirts later retreated to the check-in counter of Bangkok Airways, blasting and scolding at the staff.

They demanded again to expose names of passengers on the flight but were again denied. It was 30 minutes after the plane left the airport when they were allowed to look through the passenger list which was without Mr Somchai.

They later dispersed.

Prior to their dispersal, an electricity state enterprise employee showed up at the airport blowing whistle at the red shirts accusing them of being trouble makers for their noisy protest at the airport that disturbed residents nearby the airport.
After a brief exchange of hot words, the whistle blower agreed to leave before any untoward incident would happen.

Which kind of proved his point.

If you apply that as a generalisation then you help to unite a dis(organisation) and its various components. If you do that then you help Thaksin who thrives by dividing the Thai people. One of the things that gave him the ability to unite the North was the insults and degrading comments that they had ben subject to, Now the Shin dynasty has be shown to not care but are using the people from the north it is not the time to reinforce old grievances,

He should't have apologized, he was spot on from the beginning

Somchai later posted on his Facebook apologising the red shirts for his remarks. He said he did not mean all red shirts but only a few of them.

The PTP wants democracy

is this what you call demcract, your followers hunting down any one who disagrees with then

In the democratic word we cherish the right to free speech, right or wrong

But under PTP if you not agree with us stay away from the north or we will hunt you down

This is PTP Democracy

Not what thinking Thai people want for their country

Democrats may not win the next election, the PTP will hane the next election to them on a plate

Various Thai groups are "hunting down" other Thais. They're on the hunt for each other these Thais. They are something else.

Locust plague, seeming very little that can be done about this kind of actions..... for now.

"rude, low and wild." that's about the nicest words I could use to describe Red Shirt rowdies.

Policy led by bullies, that's what Thailand has devolved to. The caretaker government ding dongs aren't asleep at the wheel, they're no even on the poop deck.

What will the Shinawatres do to try and reign in the bullies? Nothing, for two reasons: #1: because the Reds are on their side, and #2: because they couldn't reign them in, even if they tried.

There is still 'no' reason 'not' to call things as they are, even previous red's in the north that parted from the red movement for various reasons would agree with Somchai's commend.

Excellent post.

Teaching hatred and division is the oldest political tool in the book, politicians in my country have just about everyone hating everyone else. It worked for Thaksin and now it will work against him as people like Somchai merely need to point out the reds are an unacceptable minority even in the north. It is a fiction that all northerners are reds, most are not and many are intimidated by them as we saw the farmers conflicting with the red.

Thus both of Somchai's comments were correct, the reds indeed are what they are, and it does not apply to everyone. Now all that is needed is for the urbanites to share a bit more with their northern brethren and win their hearts as red violence becomes universally unacceptable. Then Thailand can smile again.

And oh, give Suthep a position responsible for watching rubber trees grow. All will be well.

You spoilt a good write by inserting the last line , why spoil a good article.
